A late Emad Moteab goal five minutes from time kept Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League semi-final hopes alive after a 2-2 home draw with Zesco United on Friday night.
Moteab struck in the 85th minute to rescue a point for Martin Jol’s side after they went 2-1 down by half-time.
Jesse Were gave Zesco the lead after six minutes before Rami Rabia equalised for the Egyptian side just after the half-hour mark. Then Were got his second of the night just three minutes later to put the Zambian club back into the lead, which if it had lasted would have sealed their passage to the last four.
However, Moteab popped up late and pulled it back to 2-2 to give Ahly a fighting chance heading into their final Group A game at ASEC Mimosas during the midweek of August 23.
As thing stand Zesco are top of the group with eights points from five matches, one point ahead of Wydad Casablanca who play ASEC this weekend. Ahly are on five points from five matches and are still in with a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals mathematically.
However, if Wydad beat Asec this weekend then Jol’s side will be all but eliminated.
