CAF Champion League Group A: Zesco United vs ASEC Mimosas

Posted: 16 July 2016 Time: 17:20

Zambian side Zesco United thrashed Ivorian rivals ASEC Mimosas 3-1 in their CAF Champions League Group A encounter on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts scored twice within four minutes in the first half, through Jackson Mwanza and Adama Bahn, to take a 2-0 lead into the half-time break.

ASEC eventually reduced the deficit through substitute Youssouf Dao in the 76th minute, however, three minutes later Idris Mbombo restored the two-goal lead to secure a second win for Zesco in Group A.

The result sees Team Ya Ziko move onto six points from three games, and into second place behind Wydad Casablanca, who have a game in hand away to Al Ahly on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile the Mimosas drop to third place with three points from three games, as the Egyptians are yet to collect any points from two games thus far.

The top two teams after six matches will qualify for the semi-finals, facing the top two sides in Group B, which features Mamelodi Sundowns, Zamalek and Enyimba.
