SuperSport go second

SuperSport United moved up on the log with an easy 2-0 win over AmaZulu at the Super Stadium on Saturday night.

The Tshwane club move to second on the log, two points behind Golden Arrows.

The goals were scored by Bongani Khumalo and Hlompho Kekana.

SuperSport were dominant in all aspects of the game – they enjoyed the majority of ball possession and were also by far superior in the shots-on-goal column.

AmaZulu were second best for most of the night and hardly looked like scoring at all.

The home side had the first goal opportunity of the game in the 11th minute when Elias Pelembe was able to shoot inside the box, but his effort was saved by Usuthu keeper Kalililo Kakonje.

Three minutes later Gavin Hunt's men were in front when the industrious Masibusane Zongo crossed a ball for defender Bongani Khumalo to head home.

Dumisani Ngwenya enjoyed a rare chance for the KZN side a minute later, but his attempt at an equaliser from just inside the box flew over the bar.

Zongo looked to try and get on the score-sheet himself in the 18th minute, but Kakonje made the save to deny the SuperSport man from scoring.

Six minutes before the break Shane Poggenpoel also had the opportunity to double Matsatsantsa's lead, but he shot wide of goal from just 12 yards out.

SuperSport got the second goal they were looking for immediately after the break as Hlompo Kekana struck with a low shot into the corner of the net from 12-yards out.

The PSL champions continued to push for another goal, with striker Katlego Mashego twice trying his luck from the edge of the area, but he failed to force Kakonje into a save on both occasions.

After 78 minutes midfield hard-man Poggenpoel had another chance from close range to score, but again a wayward shot saw the chance go a-begging.

Kakonje continued to thwart SuperSport's quest for a third goal as he pulled of saves from Pelembe and Fikru Tefera with 10 minutes to go.

Neither side had any further chances in the game and SuperSport were able to cruise home to victory and earn a well-deserved three points.
