MTN8 semi-final first leg: Bloemfontein Celtic vs Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 16 August 2015 Time: 14:00

Bernard Parker and Helder Pelembe struck stunning goals as MTN8 holders Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-1 with Bloemfontein Celtic in the first leg of their semi-final on Sunday afternoon.

Celtic debutant Pelembe, a loan signing from Orlando Pirates, opened the scoring with an unstoppable 30-yard strike in the 34th minute.

Parker missed a penalty soon after but made amends with a first-time shot from range in the 63rd minute at Free State Stadium.

A talking point in the match emerged when referee Robert Smith awarded the spot kick after Bevan Fransman was adjudged to have impeded Siphelele Mthembu in the box. Fransman had already been booked in the 22nd minute but escaped a red card.

Chiefs will host the return game at FNB Stadium on August 29, with Ajax Cape Town drawing 1-1 at home with Bidvest Wits in their last-four tie on Saturday.

Amakhosi dominated the opening exchanges, as wingers George Lebese and Siphiwe Tshabalala tested Man of the Match Patrick Tignyemb in goal.

However, Mozambican attacker Pelembe gave his side the lead with a rasping drive before Parker failed from the spot just before the break.

Parker, though, equalised in style just past the hour-mark, with neither team making further inroads come the end of 90 entertaining minutes.
