Maritzburg United Ajax Cape Town Absa Premiership PSL report

Posted: 11 May 2016 Time: 18:13

Maritzburg United fight for Absa Premiership survival is still alive and kicking after a late goal over Ajax Cape Town at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.

Neither side could find a goal in the first half in a fiercely contested game in Durban as the home support spurred their Team of Choice on, but it remained goalless at half-time.

It stayed that way throughout the second half despite several goal-mouth incidents before Maritzburg were given renewed hope when Victor Gomes sent off Abbubaker Mobara for a second yellow card in the 74th minute.

Maritzburg scored the vital goal they were looking for in the 85th minute via a curling Thamsanqa Mkhize free-kick that took a slight deflection, and that's how it stayed until the final whistle.
