Orlando Pirates Free State Stars PSL Absa Premiership report

Posted: 9 April 2016 Time: 19:02

Orlando Pirates moved four points behind Kaizer Chiefs after a 1-0 win over Free State Stars at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Tendai Ndoro gave Bucs the perfect start with a powerful finish into the bottom-left corner after a neat flick from Mpho Makola from midfield.

Ndoro then hit the woodwork two minutes after scoring, his left-footed shot cannoning back off the corner of the goal-frame from Luvuyo Memela’s pass.

Memela had a decent penalty appeal waved away in the 30th minute when he was challenged form behind in the area, but referee Robert Smith said play on.

Thabo Matlaba also hit the upright in the 34th minute following a beautiful team move, with Memela again at the heart of it.

Ea Lla Koto were by no means outplayed despite Pirates’ superior possession, and the home side needed man of the match Brighton Mhlongo to pull off some smart saves to keep the lead.

The result put Pirates in the top six, three points ahead of eighth-placed Stars.
