SuperSport United vs University of Pretoria PSL Absa Premiership report

Posted: 14 February 2016 Time: 15:12

SuperSport United beat University of Pretoria 2-0 in their Absa Premiership clash at a rainy Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Sibusiso Khumalo opened the scoring for Matsatsantsa in the 14th minute with a beautiful low drive from the edge of the area after playing a one-two with Thuso Phala.

Stuart Baxter's side enjoyed the majority of possession but could not add any further goals to their tally for the rest of the half, and Tuks were never out of the game with Getaneh Kebede looking lively up front.

Right at the start of the second half play was stopped briefly by the match commissioner for safety reasons due to lightning overhead, but play resumed quite quickly in the rain of Atteridgeville.

Tuks had a great chance to equalise in the 53rd minute when Kebede got free in the penalty area but Ronwen Williams stood tall and charged down his shot from close range.

Michael Boxall had a decent chance to put the home side further ahead from a corner-kick in the 67th minute but could not direct his free header on target as the game remained finely balanced.

In the 75th minute Williams again denied Kebede with a fantastic save after the Ethiopian was given time and space to unleash a venomous shot from the edge of the area, but the goalkeeper showed great agility to tip it over the bar.

But Tuks' hopes of an equaliser were ended in the 85th minute when Phala made it 2-0, running onto Dove Wome's through-ball on the right flank, cutting inside a defender and firing past Tristyn Coetsee on his left foot.

The result moves SuperSport up to eighth on the Absa Premiership table, while Tuks remain in relegation trouble in 15th place.
