Brazilians ease past Celtic

Surprise Moriri scored the only goal of the game to hand Mamelodi Sundowns the perfect start to the season when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in their opening Absa Premiership fixture at Seisa Ramabodu on Sunday afternoon.

The Brazilians dominated for most of the match and should have won by a much bigger margin, was it not for their poor finishing in front of goal.

Trott Moloto’s side took the lead in the seventh minute when Moriri headed home a cross by Siboniso Gaxa.

Celtic dominated midway through the first half, but failed to seriously trouble the Sundowns defence.

The visitors came back strong towards the end of the half, with Fanyana Dhladhla forcing Celtic keeper Shuaib Walters into a good save in the 41st minute, while Mbulelo Mabizela hit the crossbar seconds before the break following Celtic’s failure to clear a corner by Josta Dladla.

The score remained 1-0 at the break, with Sundowns continuing in the same vein in the second stanza.

Shakes Ngwenya should have doubled the visitors’ lead in the 54th minute when he latched onto a good cross by Moriri, but the striker put his effort wide at the near post.

The game was disrupted as both sides rang the changes, although Celtic could have stolen a point at the end when Baloyi failed to collect a cross, but substitute Mayambela put his header wide of the empty goal.

At least we played much better this afternoon, but I’m worried about the second half performance we allow Celtics to came at us which could have been disastrous against other teams. We are miles away from reaching our potential as a team but the positive thing is we are winning on our way to our potential. Lastly please Trappa give Moterio the whole game so as to see his full capability or the same situation which happened to Ndlovu and Aldave is going to happen to him.

Its a good start for us though I did not watch the whole game, but I am still worried that we dont kill the game and then we allow the opponents to come at us in the second half. So fa Dario has done well coming in and playing just behind the strikers, but I would like to see what he can do up front. But I would like to see Mbesuma in the next game, even if for 5mins like Carrol is saying.

It is conspicuously quiet this weekend, could it be the anticipation of spring or is it because the loud mouths lost in their first games of the league, maybe we should wait and see.

sweet victory for us.Yes our performanceis not convincing but what convince me is the commitment of our players especially Napoleon and moriri and the ever reliable Yellow Man. 3 points in the bag- that was an away match remember- not like other teams beaten in their backyard.

We did well first half, but slow down second half because our coach went to his old strategy of defensive mode by introducing Jorge Acuna. At the end of the day I saw a big improvement as compare to the previous games.

What is the definition of Combination? Sundowns was accused of not combining well and chips and piereds were tiped as teams with the best combination. Does combination mean running with the balls of certain players only or playing as a team from the goalkeeper to the last man upfront and scoring goals while maintaining consistency through-out 90 Minutes, or using only two players and tip them as the best strikers,or keeping ball possesion. Guys let us be honest, chips and piereds will struggle as they rely on certain players to perform miracles whereas other teams play as a unit.

Sure masandawana, it's nice to see fans ralling behind the team. Congrats.

We have the players, and they have shown hunger. I think Troppa-toni should re-look the formation.

This is how i think the formation should look:

1 GK - Brian
2 RB - Spencer
3 LB - Gaxa
4 CDM - Nyandoro
5 CD - Mabizela
6 CM - Vilakazi
7 RAM - Josta
8 CAM - Moriri
9 ST - Ngwenya
10 ST - Fanyana
11 LAM - Shere

The old 3-5-2 would give us an offensive edge.

Shapa sandawana shapa
