Absa Premiership: Mpumalanga Black Aces vs Ajax Cape Town

Posted: 19 December 2015 Time: 17:23

Mpumalanga Black Aces rose to second on the Absa Premiership table with a 1-0 win over struggling Ajax Cape Town in Nelspruit on Saturday night.

Collins Mbesuma netted just before the break as Aces moved within two points of log leaders Bidvest Wits, who earlier lost 2-1 to title rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

Muhsin Ertugral's charges end 2015 with 24 points from 12 games, a point ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who host Orlando Pirates in Tshwane on Sunday.

Mbesuma tapped home in the 42nd minute after being teed up by fellow attacker Lebogang Manyama at Mbombela Stadium.

The Zambian's seventh League goal of the season took him to the top of the scoring charts, with Daine Klate and Andrea Fileccia one goal off the pace.

Ajax - winless since their MTN8 triumph in September and five points above the drop zone after 10 games - were twice denied by the woodwork against AmaZayoni.

National U-23 utility player Abbubaker Mobara fired against the post in the 12th minute, with Erwin Isaacs later seeing his deflected shot hit the upright midway through the first stanza.
