Black Leopards held Jomo Cosmos to a goalless in their Promotion Play-off match at Vaal University Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The result leaves Ezenkosi top of the table on goal-difference from Lidoda Duvha, with Moroka Swallows a point back, having played a game less.
It’s was all Leopards in the opening half, with Cosmos goalkeeper Sherwin Naicker kept busy between the poles.
The Ezenkhosi shot-stopper was called upon in the early stages to first deny Ivan Mahangwahaya, and then Thomas Madimba’s shot on goal as Zeca Marques’ men went in search of the early breakthrough.
The Cosmos gloveman was then called upon again just before the half-hour mark, twice denying Leopards frontman Roggert Nyundu as the away side asserted their dominance on proceedings.
Naicker was again on hand three minutes before the break as Mahangwahaya weaved his way through the Cosmos defense, unleashing a goal-bound shot, yet Naicker was equal to the task.
The beginning of the second half saw the visitors continuing with their attacks when Nyundu beat his marker, but his effort was blocked by Frederic Nsabiyumva five minutes into the second half.
Ezenkosi, led by the experienced Bryce Aka up-front, retaliated but his shot was saved by Tshinuna giving hope to the hosts.
Towards the 80th minute the match lost its spark as Leopards pushed for an opener with Mumuni Abubakar’s attempt saved by Naicker.
In the last five minutes a brilliant interchange of passes from Lidoda Duvha saw Thabo Ralebakeng nearly scoring in his own net when communication broke down between him and Naicker.
Tshinuna made a stunning save in the dying seconds to deny Charlton Mashumba, who was quiet for the better part of the match as both sides shared the spoils.
