Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 1-0 first-leg win over Congolese club TP Mazembe in their CAF Champions League clash at Loftus Stadium on Saturday night.
The Brazilians were made to wait for the goal, but it finally came four minutes from full-time courtesy of Zimbabwean attacker Khama Billiat.
Sundowns bossed the majority of the game as TP Mazembe opted to sit deep inside their own half and absorb the pressure.
Mazembe were reduced to 10 men three minutes before the end of the first half when Chongo Kabaso was sent off for a challenge on Anthony Laffor.
Themba Zwane started ahead of Teko Modise in midfield but Modise was brought on just before half-time in place of Bongani Zungu as Pitso Mosimane went all-out attack. Asavela Mbekile also replaced Siyanda Zwane early in the second half.
Eventually Sundowns got the breakthrough they were looking for as Billiat executed a fine finish to send the home crowd into raptures.
Sundowns travel to Lubumbashi on April 4 for the second led carrying a slender 1-0 advantage.
