Nedbank Cup last 16: SuperSport United vs Orlando Pirates

Posted: 21 March 2015 Time: 19:57

A wonder-goal from Jeremy Brockie earned SuperSport United a 1-0 Nedbank Cup win over Orlando Pirates and ended their 13-game unbeaten run at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Kick-off was delayed to 20h30 due to a problem with loadshedding at the venue but once the lights came back on, Polokwane witness a great game despite only one goal being scored.

SuperSport bossed the opening half-hour as three chances fell to them, first a point-blank header from Mor Diouf that was superbly saved by Brighton Mhlongo and then two close-range Brockie misses.

Pirates came back into the match in the last 15 minutes of the first half and started to take control of proceedings as SuperSport's tempo dropped, with Ronwen Williams smothering at the feet of Kermit Erasmus on two occasions.

The Buccaneers continued to ask most of the questions in the second half but it was SuperSport who took the lead, somewhat against the run of play, as Brockie scored on the volley from David Mathebula's left-footed chip.

The Kiwi found space on the right side of the area, beat the offside trap and hit the ball first time, right-footed, with bend and dip into the bottom-left corner of Mhlongo's goal.

The result takes Gordon Igesund's side into the last eight of the Nedbank Cup, while Pirates join Kaizer Chiefs on the sidelines after they lost 2-1 to Black Leopards earlier in the day.
