Nedbank Cup fixture between AmaZulu and Golden Arrows

Posted: 20 February 2015 Time: 20:05

A goal from Mabhuti Khenyeza and an own-goal by AmaZulu’s Roscoe Pietersen saw Golden Arrows advancing to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup knocking AmaZulu out of the competition.

The KwaZulu-Natal derby began on a high note and it was AmaZulu that appeared to be the favourites in this match as striker Ayanda Dlamini started testing the Arrows goalkeeper.

To no surprise Usuthu opened the scoring in the 10 minute through a beautiful ground shot by striker Bornwell Mwape who did well in the AmaZulu setup during their friendly matches recently.

Arrows never gave up after this goal and they kept their heads up and continued to search for an equaliser.

AmaZulu goalkeeper Murambadoro was tested by Sibeko in the 32nd minute but he pulled off a great save.

Then veteran Golden Arrows player Khenyeza registered his name on the score sheet with a master set piece helping his team to equalise.

Whatever Arrows coach Shaun Bartlett said to his players at the break worked very well because they were fired up and played a lot more relaxed.

In the 55th minute Khenyeza searched for a brace but his shot deflected wide. Just minutes after that AmaZulu keeper Murambadoro made a great save tipping the ball over.

Golden Arrows' pressure on AmaZulu’s defence finally paid off when they took the lead courtesy of Roscoe Pietersen’s unfortunate own goal in the 70th minute after a great cross by Deon Hotto.

The last opportunity for AmaZulu came in extra time when Asive Langwe’s final touch went wide.

This victory ensured that Golden Arrows are the first lower division club to knockout a PSL top-flight club in the 2015 Nedbank Cup.
