Bidvest Wits beat Free State Stars 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes of football in their Nedbank Cup last 32 clash at Bidvest Stadium.
The teams could not be separated after 120 minutes of football and many shots off target.
Moeneeb Josephs was the hero in the penalty shootout, saving the crucial penalty from Rudolf Bester after misses from Paulus Masehe and Papy Faty.
Danny Venter missed a couple of decent chances for Ea Lla Koto before he was substituted in extra time, but the best chance of the match fell to Fikru Tefera Lemessa.
The Ethiopian was perfectly placed to tap in Faty's square-ball from the right but instead hit the upright from three yards out, rivaling Teko Modise's late miss in the Sundowns game earlier on Saturday.
Josephs was on top form to deny the Stars attackers, most notably denying Venter with a one-handed save in a one-on-one situation just after half-time.
The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper saved from Venter on another occasion and also did enough to put him off when he was through on goal on his weaker foot with just minutes of regular time remaining.
