South Africa’s U-17s play out a 1-1 draw with Zambia in CAF Youth Championship warm-up

South Africa’s U-17 side played out a 1-1 draw with Zambia as they continued their preparations for next month’s CAF Youth Championships.

Amajimbos took the lead in front of a small crowd at the Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka after Bidvest Wits’ Liam Jordan, who recently signed on with the Clever Boys’ first team, converted a corner in the first half.

Chipolopolo Juniors struck back before the break through danger man and captain Patson Daka, as the two sides headed into the break all square.

Yet with neither team able to break the deadlock in the second period, the scoreline stayed the same at the final whistle, with both side enjoying much-needed competitive game-time ahead of next month’s continental tournament.

Molefi Ntseki’s charges will travel back to South Africa tomorrow, before finalising their preparations ahead of another friendly next week. The side will jet off to Nigeria where they are set to face the Golden Eaglets on Wednesday, 14 January.

Amajimbos have been drawn in Group B of the 2015 CAF African Youth Championships, scheduled for 15 February to 1 March in Niger, where they are pitted against Ivory Coast, Mali and Cameroon.

If they finish among the top four, they will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be staged in Chile from 17 October to 8 November 2015.
