LIVE: Ajax Cape Town vs SuperSport United

Posted: 7 December 2014 Time: 14:54

Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United played out a goalless draw in their PSL match-up on Sunday afternoon.

SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was the star performer, keeping out some very good goal attempts by the home side in a largely disappointing game.

Both teams lacked quality in the final third and their final pass, while the shots on goal were few and far between.

The game was played in very hot conditions at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town so the water breaks in each half were welcomed by the players.

In the opening minutes, Ajax midfielder Bantu Mzwakali hit a first time shot at goal from outside the box, but it took a deflection and hardly troubled Ronwen Williams.

Following that, the visitors’ Bradley Grobler shot at goal was off target and his skipper Clayton Daniels missed the target with a header before Dino Ndlovu’s long range strike was off target.

No goals at half time, but the game opened up in the second period when Ronwen Williams did very well to deny Bantu Mzwakali from scoring with a powerful free kick.

In the 51st minute, Cecil Lolo got into space and fired his left footed shot past the near post before Williams made another good save, this time to stop Mzwakali’s attempt from close range and the rebound.

With three minutes to go, Lolo again got forward and cut inside from the left flank but his powerful shot at goal swerved away from the target.

And in the final moments of the match, David Mathebula came hit a fantastic low drive against the upright and Ajax’s defence managed to clear the danger.

There is a good competition for number 2 going on. Its lonely at the summit. It appears the chansing pack are content with position two and they are fighting to take it. I am telling you, this wednesday they will be another no.2. On saturday another no.2.
