Banyana go down to Cameroon in African Women's Championship

Posted: 12 October 2014 Time: 19:44

Banyana Banyana conceded a late goal in a 1-0 loss to Cameroon in their African Women's Championship opener in Windhoek on Sunday.

Raissa Feudjio bagged the spoils with an 86th minute decider at the Independence Stadium.

Both sides had chances in the opening exchanges, as Cameroon's Yango Grace volleyed just wide of the mark before Banyana's Noko Matlou thundered a shot against the upright in the 12th minute.

Vera Pauw's charges saw more of the ball as the opening stanza ended goalless.

Cameroon started to threaten in the latter stages of the tie, as Gaelle Enganamouit was narrowly off target with an acrobatic attempt on goal before Gabrielle Onguene drew a fine save from Banyana goalkeeper Roxanne Barker in the 73rd minute.

Cameroon eventually broke the deadlock with four minutes to go when Feudjio tapped into an empty net following a mistake from Barker and one of her defenders.

I watched this and i was left very disappointed by Vera pauw's girls, they were shockingly poor. I'm quite in how poor the women's game is on the continent compare to their European, Asian and American counterparts, very poor stuff. Something needs to be done about it or let's just can it altogether, i'm not watching that crap football again. Once and always bucs.

The football I saw today was more than woeful. I am glad that we are going to play against Ghana next. I wish they that can put this pathetic team out of its misery by walloping them real good. I had hope in Vera Pauw, but it seems like she is another Perreira,,

I hope SAFA will fire her and replace her with Anna Monate. These foreigners always do well until crunch time, And then they choke terribly.

maybe the occasion was too big for girls but today the team was poor, the was no quick passing combination and no skill to dribble the big cameroonians girls......hope the coach and the team will improve as they played well before AWC.....

What a dull match. I thought there was improvement, same old Banyana.
