PSL Absa Premiership: Black Aces 1-1 Chippa United

Posted: 6 May 2015 Time: 21:52

Black Aces and Chippa United drww 1-1 in their Absa Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday after first-half goals from Edward Manqele and Lehlohonolo Nonyane.

It was Aces’ Nigerian midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo who got the crowd going with an early chance on goal, but it was off target.

Despite Aces’ good start to the encounter, it was Chippa United who scored first when Manqele squeezed in between two defenders and nodded the ball past Jackson Mabokgwane from William Twala’s pass.

Okonkwo hit another shot wide of goal as Aces did their best to respond to the early setback, but Chippa continued to look lively. Manqele found space and forced a save out of Mabokgwane.

And then in the 33rd minute Aces did find an equaliser when Nonyane broke into the danger area before chipping the ball over Motsoeneng.

Late in the first half, Mbesuma’s effort was cleared off the line before Bongolethu Jayiya sent a shot just over the crossbar.

Chippa came out fast in the second half and worked very hard for another goal, and the home side were happy to see Manqele somehow miss a sitter.

But then Aces clawed their way back into the game and had a penalty appeal turned down after substitute Abia Nale went down inside the danger area.

Midway through the second half Chippa's fitness coach Riedoh Berdien was sent off for an early shower for arguing with the fourth official.

Once the game got going again, Mbesuma almost scored the winner inside the final ten minutes after good work by exciting substitute Nale as Chippa began to put men behind the ball and defend.

Aces came close to winner near the end through Edwin Gyimah as the game came to an end at 1-1.
