PSL Absa Premiership: AmaZulu vs SuperSport United

Posted: 2 May 2015 Time: 19:41

SuperSport United struck a big blow to AmaZulu's automatic survival hopes as they beat them 3-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

The loss ensured that Usuthu remain on the bottom of the log and unlikely to get out of the bottom two, while United move put to sixth to strengthen their top-eight ambition.

A goal each from Daine Klate, Jeremy Brockie and Thuso Phala was what gave the Tshwane side three points.

It was AmaZulu that made the first move of the match when Bornwell Mwape’s header went over the crossbar.

In the 20th minute Michael Morton conceded a free-kick for a foul on John Arwuah which Marc Van Heerden took, but he could not make it count.

About six minutes before the end of the first half SuperSport received a free-kick after Jeremy Brockie was brought down by Sadate Ouro Akoriko. Daine Klate made no mistake and nailed it home, giving his side a 1-0 lead.

Just a minute before the end of the first half Klate took another set-piece but this time could not find the back of the net.

In the second half, it was Mwape once again who showed more desperation to find a goal and this time his shot was well saved by Ronwen Williams.

In the 56th minute, Zambian forward Mwape also came close to finding an equaliser for Usuthu but his shot missed the target.

Coach Steve Barker brought on Sifiso Hlanti for Marc van Heerden and he made a good cross from a corner-kick for Ouro Akoriko to power home a headed equaliser for Usuthu.

SuperSport coach Gordon Igesund also made a good change, bringing on Kingston Nkhatha to replace Bradley Grobler in the 75th minute.

Three minutes after Nkhatha's arrival Brockie found the back of the net after his presence in the area allowed Thuso Phala's cross to ricochet to the New Zealander to give his side the lead, and just a minute later Phala swept home Brockie's pass to wrap up the points.

Ouro Akoriko tried to find a second goal for his side but this time his header went over the crossbar as AmaZulu's hopes of survival suffered another blow.

AWAY: SuperSport United

Coach: Gordon Igesund
