PSL Absa Premiership: Bidvest Wits vs Black Aces

Posted: 2 May 2015 Time: 14:27

In frantic final few minutes that produced two goals, Bidvest Wits and Black Aces played to an entertaining 2-2 draw in their Absa Premiership match at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Aces took the lead in the first half through Aubrey Ngoma only to be pegged back in the second 45 by a goal from Wits’ Phumlani Ntshangase.

The game looked to heading to a stalemate when Aces took the lead again in the 90th minute thanks to captain Zamuxolo Ngalo, but again Wits equalised through Sthembiso Ngcobo with virtually the last touch of the match.

The draw sees Wits still in fourth place on 46 points from 28 League matches, with their hopes of finishing second dwindling quickly, while Aces are in 12th with 32 points.

The home side started really positively and had their first attempt on goal in the fourth minute when Thulani Hlatshwayo met a well-weighted cross, but his header went narrowly wide of the target.

Ten minutes later Henrico Botes was also on the end of a well-delivered cross into the box, but he saw his powerful header well-saved by Aces goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane.

Mabokgwane was called into action again in the 20th minute, producing a fingertip save to deny Botes from long range.

On the half hour mark Jabulani Shongwe worked himself into space on the edge of the box, but yet again the Aces goalkeeper came to the rescue with a superb save.

Aces, though, took the lead in the 33rd minute, very much against the run of play when Aubrey Ngoma tapped home a good cross from Bhongolethu Jayiya, 1-0.

Wits tried to find the equaliser before the break, but were unable to do so with the away side leading by a single goal at half-time.

The start of the second half saw Gavin Hunt make two substitutions with Paseka Sekese and Sthembiso Ngcobo coming on, but they struggled in front of goal as well.

Wits came close to finding an equaliser on the hour-mark when Sibusiso Vilakazi met a cross with a strong header, but his effort went wide of goal.

In the 77th minute the home side finally made their pressure tell when Ntshangase found the bottom-right corner of the net with a superbly struck low free-kick to make it 1-1.

Zamuxolo Ngalo then handed Aces the lead as he nodded home a Dino Ndlovu header back across goal in the 90th minute, 2-1.

Wits, though, managed to rescue a point in the dying seconds of the match when Ntshangase produced a pinpoint corner-kick for Sthembiso Ngcobo to head home from close range, 2-2.
