Camaldine Abraw scored twice as Free State Stars beat Polokwane City 3-2 in an Absa Premiership match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
City had taken the lead through Rendani Ndou, but two headers from Abraw put Stars in front. The hosts were level again through Tshepo Tema, but a last-minute penalty from Moeketsi Sekola won it for Ea Lla Koto.
Stars were on a three-game losing streak, and were also playing their first match since the death of Richard Henyekane, and in the opening stages they looked like a side devoid of focus.
City made the most of this and did all the early running, with Jabulani Maluleke firing over from the edge of the area after four minutes, before Ndou sliced a powerful effort wide.
Stars had a rare chance when Katlego Mashego broke free down the left, but he skewed his cross with two players waiting in the box.
The opening goal did eventually come for the hosts on 19 minutes. City broke quickly from a corner, with Tlolane eventually passing to Ndou, who side-footed past Diakite.
Three minutes later and Stars should have been down to 10 men when Robert Sankara pulled back Tlolane, who was straight through on goal, but the official only showed a yellow card.
Maluleke tested Diakite with two more free-kicks before Stars got the equaliser against the run of play.
A 34th-minute corner was not cleared by the home defence, allowing Abraw to head past Modiri Marumo.
Buoyed by the goal, Stars came out after the break a much better side and almost led through another Abraw strike after a defensive slip, but Marumo stood tall to keep the ball out.
City soon found their stride again and after Sipho Jembula fired a thunderbolt straight at the keeper, Ndou failed to make the most of a defensive horror show at the back.
Diakite's short pass to a defender put Stars under pressure. The ball eventually fell to Ndou, but his finish was a casual one and straight at the grateful keeper.
Sekola then lacked the necessary composure when Abraw played him into a one-on-one situation, before Tlolane showed his skill at the other end - a curling effort from the edge of the area beating the keeper, but not the crossbar.
There was another goal to come though, on 75 minutes when Abraw was again left unmarked from a corner-kick and he made no mistake with his second headed goal of the game.
But that lead lasted just two minutes before City got back through Tema, who made the most of some shocking keeping from Diakite to slot into an empty net.
Substitute Raymond Monama fired just wide from Alexander's pass shortly afterwards, before the deciding moment of the game with a minute remaining.
Jabulani Nene was adjudged to have fouled Daniel Cardoso in the area, and Sekola made no mistake from the spot for his 11th goal of the season.
The win moves Stars out of the relegation zone, two points clear of 15th-placed AmaZulu.
