Orlando Pirates lost their first match in 13 following a 2-0 defeat to Bidvest Wits at Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday evening.
They were undone by two early goals - Calvin Kadi latching onto Patrick Phungwayo's second-minute backpass to fire past Siyabonga Mpontshane.
Kadi got his second after 16 minutes - Sibusiso Vilakazi started the move, passing to Siyabonga Nhlapo, whose cross found the striker at the far-post. He made no mistake with a brilliant first-time strike.
Wits dominated the first half, with Sibusiso Vilakazi seeing his attempt tipped over the crossbar by Siyabonga Mpontshane, who made his first start for the Buccaneers, before Henrico Botes headed wide.
The closest Pirates got to a goal was in the 42nd minute, when Issa Sarr put his glancing header just wide of the upright.
Pirates started the second half a lot better as Wits defended deeper in their own half. Lehlohonolo Majoro who found himself one-on-one with Moeneeb Jospehs, but he tried to pick out a corner and missed the target altogether.
Substitute Lennox Bacela had the ball in the back of the net from close range in the 57th minute, but he was correctly ruled offside.
Pirates could have been back in the game on 61 minutes when Sifiso Myeni made a great run through the centre, but his powerful shot sailed just wide of the upright.
Myeni did well in the 82nd minute as he cut in from the right and found Mpho Makola on the edge of the area, but his shot flew inches over the crossbar.
Wits had Ntshangase sent off late on for a two-footed lunge on Sifiso Myeni, but they held on to draw level with Pirates on 44 points.
