Mamelodi Sundowns' League title hopes came crashing down like a comet as Bloemfontein Celtic inflicted a crushing 5-0 defeat on the defending champions.
It was already gone in sixty seconds as Lerato Lamola opened the floodgates almost straight from the kick-off, slotting home after Denis Onyango parried Musa Nyatama's cross into his path.
It was Lamola's 11th League goal of the season, putting him at the top of the Absa Premiership scoring charts.
Before even 10 minutes were played it was 2-0 when Hellings Mhango made it 2-0 as Celtic punished the Brazilians with some clinical finishing early on. Mhango beat the offside trap and ran onto a brilliantly timed throughball from Man of the Match Keagan Buchanan, rounded Onyango and found the net.
Clinton Larsen's team now had a two-goal cushion and sat deep, stayed compact and aimed to hit Pitso Mosimane's team on the counter.
And things took another wrong turn for Downs in the 24th minute when Onyango came out and clattered into Lamola, who was played clean through on goal by Buchanan. The red card inevitably came out, and the home side were two goals and one man down.
It was 2-0 at half-time and all indications were that Sundowns were down and out, but there was more to come.
Three quick goals early in the second half from Thapelo Morena, Nyatama and Mhango made it 5-0 as Mukuka Mulenga also made his impact felt and Phunya Sele Sele were far and away, enjoying their finest night in a long time.
Celtic missed several more chances to add to the scoreline as Mweene saved from the likes of Nyatama as Larsen's side continued to pick Downs off on the counter.
The result leaves Sundowns 13 points behind Chiefs, meaning they can now only achieve 62 points in the League. Amakhosi can win the title by winning their next game against Polokwane City.
Celtic, meanwhile, strengthen their fifth-place position and top-eight chances with a valuable three points.
