Ten-man University of Pretoria beat Maritzburg United 1-0 in the League on Sunday to extend their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions.

Atusaye Nyondo finished off a fine team goal early on for AmaTuks, who had Vuyisile Ntombayithethi sent off in the 28th minute at Tuks Stadium.

The result saw Tuks climb to seventh in the standings, while United remain in 10th spot as their winless streak stretches to nine matches.

The hosts got off to a flying start as Nyondo slotted home in the seventh minute, with Man of the Match Grant Kekana providing the assist.

However, the University side were dealt a major blow just before the half-hour mark when Ntombayithethi received a second caution for body-checking Kurt Lentjies.

Maritzburg, with a numerical advantage, dominated possession and forced Tuks on the back foot, though the hosts remained a potent threat on the counter attack.

United created several good chances to gain parity in the second half, though a combination of poor finishing and some excellent defending by Tuks kept the KwaZulu-Natal side at bay.
