Polokwane City University of Pretoria PSL report

Posted: 16 December 2014 Time: 14:45

University of Pretoria scored five second-half goals to thump Polokwane City 5-1 at a wet Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Geoffrey Massa and Thabo Mnyamane both netted braces, while Atusayi Nyondo got the other for Tuks. Cole Alexander netted the home’s only goal.

Kostadin Papic’s men took the game to Tuks from the early stages of the match, with Jabu Maluleke shooting just wide in the third minute and Puleng Tlolane following suit soon after.

Atusaye Nyondo had the goal in the back of the net but it was ruled out for a foul on Tshepo Molala, before Dino Visser gathered at the second attempt to deny Massa.

If the first half was a cagey affair, the second was the stuff dreams are made of as the goals flowed.

Myamane got the opener when his long-range shot deflected past Visser, but Polokwane were level soon afterwards though - Washington Arubi's flap at a cross seeing the ball fall to Alexander, who made no mistake with the volley.

Arubi atoned for his error with a brilliant reaction save to keep out Esau Kanyenda’s header.

Nyondo restored Tuks' lead on 74 minutes following some great interplay around the box, before Massa showed some individual brilliance in beating three defenders and then slotting past the keeper.

Massa completed his brace on 87 minutes after Polokwane were left exposed at the back, running past two defenders before slotting past Visser, and Mnyamane completed the rout with a thunderous volley off the underside of the bar after some more poor marking from a freekick.

The win moves Tuks up to 10th place with 18 points from 16 matches – one place and three points behind Polokwane.

Eish!!! This defeat is hard to swallow. I'm not sure what went wrong here, we had a good start at this game and we were tactically superior going forward but the opposite when defending. I think maybe the rain had an effect on our players as they are used to carpet football.

Nonetheless we will regroup and come back like a thief at night.

Hardy boys, better luck next game.

No team kwik anything by fluke. It's either you win or you loose. No fluke no nothing.

Mind your word next time, don't just type rubbish because you have data bundles

We won Q2 because we were the better side

Masibulele.....he didn't go wrong anywhere, it was tough for our players playing in the rain, the pitch was heavy on the foot, Tuks were playing better in the rain like they are used to it.
