Bidvest Wits vs Orlando Pirates MTN8

Posted: 17 August 2014 Time: 14:25

Orlando Pirates have one foot in the MTN8 Final after a 2-0 away win against Bidvest Wits in their semi-final, first leg match at Bidvest Stadium today.

Defenders Siyabonga Sangweni and Thabo Matlaba were the goal heroes, scoring after the break following the dullest of opening halves.

Thulani Hlatshwayo and Daine Klate had shots sail over the bar before Sangweni missed the first 45 minutes’ best chance, heading wide from a corner-kick.

However, he did not make the same mistake on 55 minutes, volleying home Daine Klate’s corner after the Wits defenders fluffed their lines.

Toriq Losper looked to have equalised soon after when he connected with Sibusiso Vilakazi’s cross, but Senzo Meyiwa was at his best to deny the former Ajax Cape Town man from close range.

Pirates then further strengthened their position in the 73rd minute when Matlaba showed blistering pace to outsprint the defence and slot under the body of Jackson Mabokgwane.

The Buccaneers had a few more half-chances towards the end of the match as Wits pushed forward, but the match finished 2-0, handing Vladimir Vermezovic’s team the advantage leading into the second leg next week.

Good luck to Pirates, they really need some luck in front of goals...especially #95 Erasmus..

Be careful of Nergadze, Bhasera, Vilakazi and Katongo.

I want a derby in the final..

Nothing unusual...as always. Qalinge replaces Klate in 70 minutes Majoro replaces Kermit in 85m. Just hate this coach he is very predictable

Sfiso will come in this time!!!

Aish...he may bring Sfiso but to me he lost momentum. Why cant he start with natural strikers. VV subs are predictable and late.. just cant tolerate him.

Unless Jele is injured there's no need for Nyauza, and I think it should be either/or between Ntshumayelo and Sarr not both of them, upfront I would prefer two strikers,,, but with this line-up I'd use 3 at the back and push Maltaba as a left winger and Klate on the left, Sarr and Bibo holding in midfield with Manyisa as no.10 behind lone striker,,,, 3 - 2 - 3 -1 - 1 formation.
