University of Pretoria Bloemfontein Celtic PSL

Lerato Lamola scored a late goal to help Bloemfontein Celtic to a smash-and-grab 2-1 Absa Premiership win over the University of Pretoria on Wednesday.

Lamola scored either side of half-time to bag his first brace of the season as Tuks suffered their fifth defeat of the campaign.

The defeat leaves Tuks second from bottom, having taken the lead early in the game through Thabo Mnyamane.

Lamola though, did enough for Phunya Sele Sele, clinching three valuable points for the Free State outfit.

Having not scored a single goal at home so far this season, Tuks soon changed that stat and went ahead through Mnyamane, who curled a left-footed effort into the far corner eight minutes in.

Caught off-guard early in the contest, Celtic were made to work their way back as Dumisani Zuma and Mukuka Mulenga tried their luck, narrowly missing the target.

But the visitors looked like a team hungry for goals and pulled level after the half-hour mark.

Tuks withstood a barrage of shots and half-chances, but would eventually be undone after a lack of concentration allowed Celtic to advance into the area before Lamola slotted home from close range.

Celtic came out firing after the break and were it not for Arubi, second half replacement Lyle Lakay would have put the visitors ahead after 64 minutes.

Lakay broke through the line and had a shot at goal, which Arubi did well to punch away.

Tuks had their best chance of the half fall to Mnyamane, who was denied his brace by the post, seven minutes from the end.

But Celtic would have the last laugh as Lamola made sure of his second of the evening, slotting home two minutes from time to wrap up maximum points for the visitors.
