Platinum Stars vs University of Pretioria

Posted: 28 September 2014 Time: 15:44

Platinum Stars held the University of Pretoria to a goalless draw in Rustenburg on Sunday afternoon.

Dikwena were largely unconvincing throughout the 90 minutes and were ultimately fortunate to come away with a point.

The draw leaves the teams in 12th and 13th place on the Absa Premiership log respectively.

Both coaches named attacking starting line-ups as they targeted all three points at a windy Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Mogakolodi Ngele, Ndumiso Mabena and Zimbabwean Patrick Kaunda, who was making his debut, were tasked with breaking down AmaTuks’ defence.

Steve Barker, meanwhile, placed his trust in Thabo Mnyamane, Atusaye Nyondo, Khethukuhle Zwane and Thabo Mosadi, with Geoffrey Massa named on the bench.

The visitors made a positive start to the game, with Sifiso Nzimande and Mosadi forcing Kabelo Dambe into two good saves in the opening half-hour.

First the Botswana international tipped Nzimande's audacious effort from outside the area over the crossbar, before doing well to save Mosadi's powerful effort from close range.

The best chance of the half fell to Nyondo three minutes before the break. Mosadi made a powerful run down the left flank before producing a superb cross that cut out Dambe and left Nyondo with an open net, but the Malawi international only managed to hit his first-time effort over the crossbar.

Both sides struggled to test the keepers in the opening exchanges of the second-half and as a result both coaches chose to switch things around, with Eleazar Rodgers and Rhulani Manzini called upon by Allan Freese, while Steve Barker introduced Massa for the final 20 minutes.

Mosadi squandered another glorious chance to grab all three points for the visitors in the 78th minute. The speedy winger was sent straight through on goal, but he was again superbly denied by an onrushing Dambe.

Dikwena pushed forward in the dying embers of the encounter, but were ultimately unable to put the ball in the back of the net.

Tuks should have won that game so easily, lack of composure kills them when they got in the box. Hope they learnt their lesson

tukkies really showed how not to score with the goals begging at their mercy, it was like watching amateur footballers playing football on the big stage for the first time and not knowing how to score easy chances, lacking the composer that professional footballers has. It was Crazy stuff to watch and Steve barker should fine his whole team for throwing 2 points away.  Christmas came very early for the pokeng dead crocodiles, freese is a dead man walking.  Once and always bucs.
