Moroka Swallows suffered their second defeat of the season after going down 3-0 to a dominant Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership clash at Bidvest Stadium on Friday evening.
Ethiopian striker Getaneh Kedebe scored twice, while Sameehg Doutie scored from a stunning free-kick to hand the Students maximum points, which take them to third in the standings.
The win was enough to see Wits leapfrog Swallows, who go home empty-handed after a largely disappointing evening in Braamfontein.
Swallows had the first real chance in the 16th, but Siyabonga Nomvethe skied his effort after being put through on goal.
Seconds later, Wits struck and Kedebe made no mistake netting the opener from a corner to hand Wits the advantage.
Swallows boss Zeca Marques was left with somewhat of a headache by the time half-time arrived after he was forced to make two substitutions inside 45 minutes.
Both Nomvethe and Lerato Chabangu were forced off the field with knocks and Marques looked notably concerned by the injures to two of his key veterans.
Still trailing 10 minutes into the second half, Swallows conceded their second as Kedebe capped a superb performance with a header which put further daylight between the teams.
If the home fans thought that would be it, they would have been delighted by Wits' third goal seven minutes later.
Doutie, brought on by coach Gavin Hunt just four minutes prior, scored a splendid free-kick from some way out to open his league account for the Clever Boys.
That would be the final action as Wits ran out comfortable victors, leaving Swallows pondering what could have been and must now head back to the drawing board during the international break, which starts on Monday.
