World Cup Final Germany v Argentina
Posted: 13 July 2014 Time: 20:18
Follow the live action as Argentina and Germany meet in the 2014 World Cup Final in Rio de Janeiro.
FULLTIME: Germany are the 2014 World Cup champions! Gotze with a brilliant goal to win it, but Argnetina only have themselves to blame for a number of missed chances early on.
120 SUB Mertesacker on for Ozil
119 - Great skill by Mueller as he beats two defenders, but his cross into the area is wasteful.
117 - Palacio with a header from 15 yards out lands on the roof of the net.
That was some strike by the Bayern Munich man. If there is one team who knows how to win teh big matches it's the German.
113 GOAL!!!! What a strike by Mario Gotze! He controls a cross from the left on his chest and volleys past Romero. Excellent strike!!
110 - Schweinsteiger off the field after getting hit in the face by Aguero. Blood streaming down his face.
107 - Mascherano and Biglia double-team Schweinsteiger, but nothing comes from thr resulting free-kick.
Halftime of extra-time: Good start to the half as Schurrle and Rodrigo have good chances, but nothing after that.
We've reached 100 mins in the 2014 World Cup Final and still no goals ...
97 - Another miss by Argentina! Rojo's cross eludes Hummels and falls to Rodrigo. His first touch is poor, but he gets to the ball and lobs Neuer, only for the attempt to go wide.
93 - At the other end, Aguero has the space in area, albeit from a tight angle. Rather than wait for support, he fires off a shot which goes out for a throw.
91 - What a start by Germany! Schurrle with a powerful shot which Romero can only parry.
And so we start ...
End of 90 mins: Goalless we are after 90 mins - the third consecutive Final it happens in.
91 - Bad backpass allows Gotze a sight of goal, but he scuffs his effort abd Romero can gather.
90 - Three minutes time to be added ...
88 SUB as World Cup record goalscorer Miroslav Klose is replaced by Mario Gotze
86 Last SUB for Argentina as Perez goes off for Fernando Gago.
82 - Great build-up by Germany sees Ozil run down the right and cross to the unmarked Kroos on the edge of the area. However, the new Real Madrid man's shot is so tame and goes well wide.
80 - Hoewedes finds himself in the opposition area as the ball lands at his feet. Unfortunately he is a centre-back, which his poor touch eludes to. The moment is lost and Argentina are safe.
77 SUB as Rodrigo Palacio replaces Higuain. Oh what could have been for the striker ...
75 - Messi with rare space on the edge of the area. He beats one defender, but can't get the curl on it to beat Neuer.
73 - The game has hit something of a lull now. Both teams more afraid of losing now than winning?
70 - Excellent build-up play by the Germans, only for Hoewedes to put in a rubbish cross.
65 YELLOW for Aguero now. That's the 181st booking of the tournament.
64 YELLOW Mascherano booked as he tries to make up for losing the ball in the first place. Not the first booking of his career ...
62 - Aguero works hard to win a corner off Hummels, but it comes to nothing.
59 - Lahm takes on the leftback and gets his cross in, but Klose's header lacks power and Romero easily gathers.
57 - Neuer absolutly flattens Higuain in a challenge - and then wins the freekick! The Argentine looks groggy - understandably so.
53 - Great feet by Schurrle, who is fouled on the edge of the area. However, the ref waves play-on and Mueller's cross is cleared for a corner.
50 - Zabaleta pass at the back is intercepted, but as usual Mascherano is there to cover.
47 - What a miss by Messi!! Higuain with a clever pass and Messi is through on goal, but he drags his shot inches wide of the far post.
SUB Interesting sub as the dangerous Lavezzi is replaced by Aguero.
46 - And we're back...
HALFTIME: No goals, but no shortage of action. Argentina with the better chances, but Germany come closest with Hoewedes hit the upright.
45 – WOODWORK Hoewedes hits the upright with a header from a corner!
44 – Muller with a cross from the right which just eludes Klose. So Klose to the opening goal. (Yes, lame …)
43 – Mascherano loses the ball and Germany attack. The ball eventually breaks to Ozil on the edge of the area, but his shot is tame and straight at Romero.
42 – Bit of handbags as Mueller has a go at the opposition for a supposed foul, but the ref steps in and diffuses the situation.
40 – Messi breaks through, but Neuer saves and then Boateng is there to clear off the line. Argentina with the best chances so far.
38 - Great diving save by Romero to deny Schurrle, but Ozil is blown offside.
36 Messi runs at goal and looks to square to unmarked Higuain, but Schweinsteiger blocks. Goalsaving block that.
34 YELLOW Yellow for Hoewedes for a horrible challenge - his boot catches Zabaleta on the inside of the knee. Lucky to stay on there.
32 SUB Schurrle comes on for Kramer, whose debut lasted just more than half-an-hour
30 - Higuain has the ball in the back of the net from Lavezzi's cross, but he's well offside.
29 YELLOW Schweinsteiger gets the first card of the Final for a foul on Lavezzi.
27 - Interesting stat: Argentina are coming up for almost seven hours without conceding!
25 - Germany settled again after that brief Argentina spell. Very tight match so far, baring that one glorious chance.
22- Zabaleta with a last-ditch tackle to deny Mueller. Excellent timing.
20 - BIG CHANCE for Argentina as Toni Kroos' back-header goes straight at Higuain, who is one-on-one with the keeper. But the Napoli man, with lots of time, drags his shot wide from right in front. What a miss!!!
17 - World Cup debutant Kramer is down after connecting with a defender's elbow. It's not looking good.
15 - Germany's chance to attack now. They threaten from a freekick and corner, but Argentina hold firm at the back.
13 - Klose with his first look-in as he jumps for a cross from the right, but Demichelis did enough to distract the Lazio man.
12 - Good spell this for Argentina, with Lavezzi in particular very impressive. His pace is causing the defence some serious problems.
10 - So close for Argentina!! Zabaleta finds space down the right and crosses, but his cross is just behind Perez, who was unmarked in the area.
8 - First bit of Messi magic. He runs past Hummels like he isn't there, but his cross finds no-one in the area.
4 - Schweinsteiger's freekick hits the wall and Argentina break. Levezzi shows great pace and fires a shot across the face of goal, but no-one is there. First chance.
3 - Dangerous freekick for Germany after a foul on Mueller. Can they make this count?
2 - Some early misplaced challenges from the Germans. Nerves?
1 - And off we go!! Germany playing from left to right.
Bad news for Germany - Sami Khedira has picked up a late injury and will be replaced by Christopher Kramer.
Argentina are set to play in their fifth World Cup final, they have won two and lost two of the previous four.
Germany are set to play in their eighth World Cup final; more than any other nation. They have won three titles.
The two coaches have, understandably, named unchanged line-ups from those that did duty in the semi-finals.
