4th pen Netherlands: Kuyt SCORES!

3rd pen Argentina: Aguero SCORES!

3rd pen Netherlands: Sneijder SAVED!!!

2nd pen Argentina: Garay SCORES!

2nd pen Netherlands: Robben SCORES!

1st pen Argentina: Messi SCORES!

1st pen Netherlands: Vlaar.....SAVED!!

FT (ET): Netherlands 0-0 Argentina. To penalties...

121' - Kuyt has a final chance to find a telling pass as Netherlands make one last attack, but he can't.

117' - Messi gets down the right and puts in a cross to the far post to Rodriguez, but he can't get enough power on the volley and Cillessen saves at his near post.

115' - Rodriguez chips the ball through for Palacio, but his header is weak and straight at Cillessen. Great chance missed!

109' - De Vrij tries his luck from distance but it's always bending wide of Romero's goal.

107' - Zabalata is floored by a bustling Kuyt shoulder to the jaw in a 50/50 and is receiving attention on the pitch.

HT (ET): Netherlands 0-0 Argentina

106' - Palacio puts in a teasing ball from the right but Aguero can't get on the end of it!

105' - YELLOW CARD for Huntelaar.

103' - Robben is thwarted after skipping past one challenge, then Messi's dribble is brought to an end by astute defending.

101' - SUB for Argentina: Rodriguez (ON) Lavezzi (OFF)

99' - Robben hits a swerving effort from long range but it's comfortably gathered by Romero.

96' - SUB for Netherlands: Huntelaar (ON) Van Persie (OFF)

FT: Netherlands 0-0 Argentina. 30 minutes of extra-time to come...

91' - Kuyt plays it to Sneijder, who deftly touches it to the onrunning Robben, who gets into the area and works a tight angle and is about to score, but Mascherano gets back to make a match-saving, last-ditch block!

87' Messi wriggles away from a few markers and slips in Aguero, whose centre is blocked.

86' - Robben theatrically wins a corner, which is cleared away by Argentina, and the follow-up shot trickles harmlessly wide.

84' - Rojo with an ambitious drive from about 40 yards out is easily saved by Cillessen.

82' - SUBS for Argentina: Palacio and Aguero (ON) Perez and Higuain (OFF)

75' - Higuain hits the sidenetting from close range after getting a foot to Perez's right-wing cross. Looked like it found the roof of the net from some angles...not to be.

74' - Van Persie has his first whiff of goal with an impossible-looking reverse kick from Janmaat's right-wing cross, but he's offside anyway...

71' - Lavezzi cuts in from the right and finds some space to release a shot, but it's blocked by a compact Dutch defence. Rain pouring down now as a tight, tactical game continues...

62' - SUB for Netherlands: Clasie (ON) De Jong (OFF)

58' - Lavezzi finds some space down the right channel, cuts back onto his left foot and sends a cross towards Higuain, but timely defending from De Vrij to deny the striker a headed chance.

56' - Perez goes on a good run down the right and finds Messi in the centre, but he is denied just as he tries to make space for a shot by an excellently timed tackle from Vlaar.

51' - Scare for Netherlands at the back as Messi gets in behind but he's offside. Game on a knife-edge, just needs one mistake or moment of brilliance...

50' - Sneijder has a pop at goal from a free-kick about 30 yards out but gets under it, and it's well over the bar.

49' - YELLOW CARD for Demichelis.

46' - SUB for Netherlands: Janmaat (ON) Martins Indi (OFF)

HT: Netherlands 0-0 Argentina

45' - YELLOW CARD for Martins Indi for another cynical foul on Messi just as he was getting into full flight.

40' - Argentina with a decent spell of possession again as they play around in the Dutch half but the final ball is still lacking, from both teams.

36' - Sneijder takes a hefty whack on the back of the leg from Demichelis, before Martins Indi blocks off Messi. Game getting a little scrappy at the moment...

34' - Now Messi is blown offside just as it looked like he had found some space behind the defence down the right channel. Quiet night so far for him...

32' - Sneijder puts a few crosses into the area from the left flank but Romero punches clear before Van Persie is blown offside.

30' - Mascherano is back on the pitch and looks ok. Not much goalmouth action yet but an intriguing tactical battle.

27' - Mascherano falls to the turf worryingly following a clash of heads with Wijnaldum and play is stopped while he receives treatment.

24' - A flying Garay heads over the bar from Lavezzi's corner-kick, under pressure from Vlaar!

23' - Kuyt picks out Van Persie's run down the right channel but the striker can't return it to him in the centre of the area as his right-footed cross is intercepted.

19' - Messi and Zabalata combine well on the right flank before the right-back picks out Higuain at the near post, whose shots is blocked and goes out for a corner.

15' - Messi hits a free-kick from about 25 yards out powerfully but straight down the throat of Cillessen in the Dutch goal.

13' - Mascherano makes a great tackle on Robben but his clearance deflects to Sneijder, who sits it up before half-volleying just wide of the far post!

10' - Neither side able to open up the other's defence just yet, but an intriguing battle here can only intensify.

6' - Robben gets into the box for the first time but is forced wide by Argentina defenders and the danger is gone.

3' - Perez, filling the boots of Di Maria, goes on his first promising dribble through the middle before his attempted through-pass is cut out.

1' - We're underway in Sao Paulo as the orange and white play from left to right against the La Albiceleste with black shorts and socks.

Will it be Messi or Arjen Robben to outperform the other tonight as their respective nations play for a place in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final against Germany?

The Dutch are unchanged from the side that started their penalty-shootout win over Costa Rica while La Albiceleste make two changes from their 1-0 win over Belgium, with Enzo Perez and Marcos Rojo coming in for Angel Di Maria and Jose Basanta.
