28 - FIRST CHANCE! Xhaka's low shot in the box is kept out by Romero's legs following good work down the right by the explosive Shaqiri!

24 - Messi turns Xhaka but his follow-up ball into the box for Higuain is a touch too weak and Lichtsteiner intercepts.

20 - Messi goes on an exciting run down the right before eventually losing out to one of his many markers. He's starting to becoming an increasing presence in this game, which is still yet to deliver a real scoring chance for either side.

16 - Messi is clattered to the ground following a strong challenge from Xhaka. The Swiss are, understandably, keeping a close eye on the Barcelona man.

14 - Benaglio does well to gather a useful ball into the box from Messi, who burst into life there after a relatively subdued start by the maestro.

12 - Rodriguez zips in to prevent Messi from getting onto the ball in midfield. Good awareness from the Swiss.

9 - Behrami breaks down the left but his weak cross - intended for Drmic - is hacked clear by the Argentine defence.

6 - Lichtsteiner is lucky to escape a caution for holding back Di Maria after the Argentine beat him down the left flank with a subtle touch.

3 - Zabaleta makes a good tackle to halt a purposeful run by Rodriguez as the teams feels each other out early on.

1 - Argentina get us underway!

The victor of this contest will face either Belgium or USA in Brazilia on 5 July in the next round of the competition.

Lionel Messi's side ended top of Group F with a perfect nine points following victories over Bosnia-Herzegovina (2-1), Iran (1-0) and African champions Nigeria (3-2). 

The Swiss came second to Group E winners France with six points, as they were defeated 5-2 by Les Bleus - who are already through to the last-eight - in between beating Ecuador (2-1) and Honduras (3-0).

The teams have been announced:

Argentina: Romero, Garay, Zabaleta, Gago, Di Maria, Higuain, Messi, Mascherano, Rojo, F. Fernandez, Lavezzi.

Switzerland: Benaglio, Lichtsteiner, Inler, Xhaka, Behrami, Rodriguez, Mehmedi, Drmic, Djourou, Schar, Shaqiri.

Much as I support the underdogs in most cases but Argentina deserved to win as I can not bring myself to watch a team that parks the bus like the Swiss going into the next match
