PSL Match Report: Platinum Stars 2-1 Free State Stars

Posted: 13 August 2014 Time: 22:16

Platinum Stars ran out 2-1 winners over Free State Stars and condemned them to the bottom of the Absa Premiership log on Wednesday night.

A brace from Ndumiso Mabena saw Platinum Stars come from a goal behind to beat the Ea Lla Koto at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The win was Dikwena’s first of the season, while the loss for Free State was their second in two matches and leaves them as the only team in the League yet to collect a point.

Platinum Stars moved up to ninth place on the table with their first three points.

It was the worst possible start to the game for the home side who found themselves a goal behind after a Moeketsi Sekola goal five minutes in, 1-0.

Nonetheless, Platinum Stars picked themselves up and began mounting a comeback that saw the home side playing some beautiful passing football, but they proved to be wasteful in front of goal.

That was until the 26th minute when Mabena found the equaliser after a sustained period of play from Dikwena to take the match into the break locked at 1-1.

Platinum Stars continued to dominate matters after the break and took the lead in the 53rd minute thanks to a second goal from Mabena. The Dikwena striker did well to head home a corner-kick, 2-1.

Free State tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so.

HOME: Platinum Stars

Coach: Allan Freese
Formation: four two three one

AWAY: Free State Stars

Coach: Tom Saintfiet
Formation: four four two

There was no service look at the current strikers they are also struggling badly in front of goals.

Wat do you mean by service my friend as bucs can create more than 20 clear cut chances in a match, is that not a service as for Ndumndum he evn missed open net or failed to beat goalkeeper

I always thought the Bucs faithfools who disliked this guy so much, had it wrong. This boy is yet to shine jut like Mahoota. Nothing beats confidence - allow players to gain it. Don't be too quick to judge.

The only problem at Pirates some players are selfish want to shine rushing infront of goals look at Makola he is clueless he doesn't know what to do infront of goals, wish Mr Krol can come back and save our team from this Erasmus is doing fine and I wish the coach could partner him with Majoro

I am very happy for Mabena. He is in the same feat as Masango. Favourite crocodiles over shadowed their talents. Well done keep up the good work.

The pressure of playing for Pirates is not the same as Platinum Stars, some players can't handle it. Well done Ndumiso Mabena

I said this guy will top the scoring charts simple because there is less pressure at Platinum Stars, now he has his confidence back and Freese will allow him to make mistakes while knowing he has room to improve or correct them,at Pirates you make mistakes the fans want you out.

Bathathe Mbuduma!!!.
