Bright Ejike scored the only goal of the game for Heartland FC as they won 1-0 at home against Lobi Stars in a Week 19 game of the Glo Premier League played on Sunday evening.
Ejike scored with a penalty kick in the 16th minute after Lobi’s Moses Bunde handled the ball inside his own box. The goal was the striker’s eighth this season.
Happy Okuoka was a handful for Lobi’s defence who were constantly under pressure. Ejike nearly doubled Heartland’s lead moments later but his shot from 22-yards came off the crossbar with Terhemen Akombo well beaten.
Lobi’s Bunde was cautioned by the referee for a harsh tackle, while Okukoa’s attempt to increase the tally for the hosts was halted as he was caught offside after being released by a good pass from Roland Koffi.
Lobi brought in John Paul for Ukeyima Akombo who was injured in the second minute of the resumption of the second half, after taking a hit.
As the hosts continued to miss chances, visiting Lobi gradually found their rhythm and they eventually put fear into the hearts of the fans at the Dan Anyiam Stadium when substitute John Paul netted an equalizer in the 73rd minute, but his effort was disallowed by the referee.
Julius Ubido forced a fine save from T. Akombo moments later, but it was the hosts who dominated the closing minutes, but it had no effect on the scores.
