Nigeria lose to USA

Posted: 7 June 2014 Time: 23:35

Two goals from Jozy Altidore condemned the Super Eagles to a 2-1 defeat against the USA on Saturday night in Jacksonville.

The result means the Super Eagles travel to the World Cup without winning any of their warm up games.

The Super Eagles controlled the game early on, with Mikel the focal point of midfield control, but the Nigerians failed to make their possession count, and barely troubled Tim Howard.

Indeed, it was the Americans who had the first real opportunity of the game on the breakaway.

Ogenyi Onazi coughed up possession in midfield to Clint Dempsey who fed it to DaMarcus Beasley on the left. Beasley crossed into the box, but defender Godfrey Oboabona was quick to break up the opportunity.

It wasn't long before another opportunity presented itself again on the breakaway. Jermaine Jones and Clint Dempsey played some quick touches and found Michael Bradley in space on the right side.

His shot from just outside the box was palmed away by Vincent Enyeama for a corner kick.

By this time, the USA had gained a foothold in the game, and with The midfield again bypassed, Alejandro Bedoya skipped past Juwon Oshaniwa down the right, and cut in for Fabian Johnson.

With Onazi failing to track his run, Johnson sent a low cross to the Nigeria goal line where Altidore arrived to tap home.

If his first was a simple finish, Altidore's second was world class. Bradley's ball over the top out him up against Yobo. The forward turned the Nigerian one way and another before firing past Enyeama's near post.

Emmanuel Emenike had a chance to reduce the deficit after he was played in by Gabriel Reuben, but shot at Howard.

Moses eventually reduced the arrears from the spot after he was brought down in the area.

And Efe Ambrose could have made it 2-2 with seconds left when he found himself unmarked inside the box to receive a Moses freekick, but he shanked his effort well wide.

I am absolutely disappointed in this eagles team, most esp the team coach.. keshi.he chose his boys..but they re not worthy enough except enyeama and moses all others re super chickens.some players re not suppose to b in that team n keshi used his hands to spoil all he has done to build the team that won the African nations cup.
