Nissan’s GT-R vision for 2020

The Gran Turismo concept cars keep rolling in. This one is from the Japanese manufacturer most closely tied to the popular racing simulator franchise: Nissan. They’re calling the 2+2 virtual concept the Concept 2020 and the advanced aerodynamic body allegedly speaks to Nissan’s ‘vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future.’
That has got to be talking about the next Nissan GT-R, surely? The motorsport-derived wings and splitters are typical concept car stuff but the A-pillar and roofline is clearly borrowed from the current GT-R. As are the spherical quad rear lights.
As mentioned before, Nissan and the makers of Gran Turismo have a long history of working together, with Polyphony going so far as designing the graphics that appear on the current Nissan GT-R’s central command display. The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo is the product of Nissan designers being given free rein to create their dream supercar.
The team at Nissan Design Europe created the concept and subsequently an advanced engineering team based at Nissan Technical Centre in Atsugi, Japan, worked on it – giving it practical merit. Although it’s been revealed now, Gran Turismo 6 gamers will only be able to enjoy the new car from July onwards.
Nissan say, ‘(Like previous Skylines and GT-Rs in Gran Turismo), we’re committed to delivering excitement for enthusiasts and we believe the real-world is ready for the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Watch this space…’ That seems to suggest that this is a little more than just a CGI flight of fancy.
