BMW’S newest X heads to South Africa

Another week, another niche… BMW’s broken out a new formula with the X4, its latest take on the Sports Activity Coupe idea.
The new X4 is based on the X3 but its more aggressive design characteristics and characteristic roofline allow it to immediately stand out from the crowd. In BMW fashion, the rear shows off signature L-shaped LED lights and diffuser-like styling. Compared with the X3, however, occupants in the X4 sit 20mm lower although BMW assures ‘generous’ space for up to five people.
It will also be powered by a trio of BMW’s most charismatic petrol and diesel engines with outputs ranging from 135 to 230kW. Fuel-saving EfficientDynamics measures are also employed in the form of auto start stop and coasting functions (on the eight-speed automatic) and brake energy regeneration. Low rolling resistance tyres are also optional.

From the cabin, ConnectedDrive features include full-colour head-up display, high beam assist, lane departure warning, active cruise control with a stop-and-go function and a collision warning system.
The new BMW X4 will go on sale in South Africa in September 2014.
