Cape Town City midfielder Aubrey Ngoma will be hosting the ‘Aubrey Ngoma Football Festive Tournament’ at Temba Stadium in Hammanskraal tomorrow.
In partnership with the City of Tshwane and the Ngoma foundation, the tournament aims to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, especially nyaope that is currently causing havoc in townships.
Ngoma has also identified two orphanages around Hammanskraal which he will donate food parcels and toys to for Christmas.
"It hurts me so much to see some of the best players I’ve played with in Hammanskraal hooked on substance abuse. It is so sad to see another park where we used to play football turned into a nest for this substance abuse,” Ngoma tells KickOff.com.
"I want to use this tournament as part of our initiative for community development and also help raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
“I hope to see more Aubrey Ngomas coming from Hammanskraal which I believe is blessed with a lot of football talent,” he adds.
The finals of the Aubrey Ngoma Festive Tournament are set for Temba Stadium on December 24, with sides from Metro Police and Local Taxi Association playing a curtain raiser.
The tournament will be attended by current and former PSL players such as Thabang Monare, Thokozani Sekotlong, Andile Jali, Lebogang Manyama, Bhongolwethu Jayiya and Dino Ndlovu.
Meanwhile, the Tlou Segolela Festive Tournament is currently underway in Polokwane for the fifth year in succession.
Mpho Moloto, who is part of the organising committee, says: "Everything is going well. We are very happy with the response we have received from the community and the support from the Polokwane Municipality and the business people around.
"We are geared for another exciting festive season around Moletjie again this year,” he concludes.
