Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso hopes their new kit will inspire them to glory this season

Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is hoping their new kit will inspire them to glory in the coming season, the same way the striped one did in 2014/15 under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter.

Amakhosi, together with their sponsors Nike, launched their home and away kits on Monday, just a few weeks before the new campaign gets underway.

According to a statement sent out by Chiefs, the new home kit features a modern design with the iconic gold shirt complemented by bold diagonal black stripes running across the torso – the stripes representing traditional spears rising together to create a sense of motion and unity on the field.

“The home kit reminds me of the stripes when the team won the league in 2014/15. Obviously this one the stripes are going from the bottom up now. It goes into a spear type of thing,” Cardoso says.

“It’s somewhat different. Obviously black and gold are our colours. They have been with us for as many years as I come remember, so it’s exciting.”

The colour purple dominates the away kit, something which surprised both supporters and players.

“The away kit is very different. I don’t think many people expected it to be purple. It’s something we will have to grow into, but I think it’s a new venture for us. It’s a new season, so maybe the purple will change us a bit. Obviously we won’t play with it as often as the home kit, but hopefully it can bring us more trophies.”
