Bucs through to Vodacom Challenge Final

Posted: Jul 21 2011

Orlando Pirates will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Vodacom Challenge at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday after beating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in Port Elizabeth.

Tlou Segolela was the hero for Bucs in a fast-paced and highly physical game, scoring the winner on the hour-mark.

Someone should have told the players it was a pre-season match; especially the first 45 minutes were characterised by some strong challenges.

Chiefs were first to fire a shot off in anger – Lehlohonolo Majoro firing his drive from distance over the bar on seven minutes, before Daine Klate followed suit from a free-kick at the other end soon after. Dominic Isaacs could consider himself lucky to have remained on the field for his challenge on Tlou Segolela.

Siphiwe Tshabalala showed his skill on 12 minutes, side-stepping a defender before firing in a shot which Senzo Meyiwa did well to parry for a corner.

Siyabonga Sangweni showed on his debut against Tottenham Hotspur what a great buy he will prove to be, and he again came to the rescue 11 minutes later after Knowledge Musona ran onto Josta Dladla’s long pass and chipped the keeper, but the former Golden Arrows defender saved the day.

Not to be outdone, Itumeleng Khune produced a great one-on-one save after Segolela had burst through, before Sangweni again showed his class with a last-ditch tackle to deny Majoro.

Chiefs should have had the lead on 35 minutes. Musona’s deflected shot was only parried by Meyiwa, but Tshabalala inexplicably volleyed over with an open net.

Amakhosi brought on three substitutes at the start of the second half and one of them, Mandla Masango, nearly scored straight away, but his volley from eight yards out was weak and straight at Khune.

Then, on 59 minutes, the opening goal – Ruben Cloete’s cross from the left found Segolela at the far post. Sox looked to have wasted the moment with his first touch, but managed to fire a shot off which went under Khune’s body and into the back of the net.

Chiefs almost hit back through the hardworking Musona, but Happy Jele was on hand to take a dangerous cross off his foot right in front of goal. Jele almost scored at the other end with 10 minutes remaining, but his low drive was held by Khune.

Tried as they may, Chiefs could not find the equalizer – but they will have a quick chance at revenge when the two teams do battle in the Carling Black Label Cup on July 30.

Ryan Cooper

Jimmy tau was paid a visit by his boss ( Bobby Motaung).

As a good sports person Jimmy offered Bobby Tea.

Jimmy Tau took out a saucer and placed a teabag, added two spoons of sugar & poured milk, all in a saucer.

Bobby was amazed at this and he couldn’t hold himself and he asked Jimmy Tau.

‘Tau, why are you pouring tea for me in a saucer?’

Jimmy Tau Answered

‘Angithi i Pirates yawathatha wonke ama Cup’.ha ha ha ha ha

I am not celebrating because what happened is nothing less than what I knew was going to happen. I said it will be practice match and we showed because we were not as serious as they were.

Where was Tau and his big hole of his called mouth? Is it "Reyavaya Express" Segolela who scored even though he they say he runs like a headless chicken? Now the headless chicken will harass them this season.

It's going to be another difficult season for us. Three years and the clown has learnt nothing. We've never won a game with Yende, Masango and Nale on the pitch at the same time. And what does the clown do, he brings them on at the same time! Obviously in Eastern Europe there is no such thing as building a player's confidence. How else do you explain the fact that all of little Khune,Lebese and Ncobo are benched the next game after they score?

As usual, Manyisa was outstanding.Hope Pitso is watching, he is way better than KG. Win or loose, Khosi for life.

who are we kidding mara makhosi?!!!!!...Thers no way this useless team of ours will win the league especially wit kaak players like sweswe, zanu jambo, ritchie and even masangcow. Theres no point complaining becos bobby fatboy wont lose any sleep over this loss nor will he care about wat we have to say since its his ''team''. Instead of tryin by all means to sign morgan gould hes busy hopin the supporters backin will make kaak players like sweswe to peform;which is utter crap!.....

Mboro : 2011-07-21 23:02

Truth be told, Kaizer Chiefs doesnt have quality players, look at Masango, Lucky Khune, Jambo, Nale, Richiea, Ncanana,Songique, matle etc, these guys are not Kaizer Chiefs material...the Motaungs have lost it......

QUESTION: wats really going on with chiefs i am telling u that fat boy bobby is messing with the derby coz it wont come as a suprise if pirates win every derby this season. I am a buccaneer bt i want 2 c daniels or gould at chiefs or both. Sign a proper left back musonda g.arrows. Re-inforce central middle field with khuboni n g.maluleka. Strikers fanteni n bacela. If this is nt done chiefs wont win anything especially now that the strongest teams PIRATES, SUNDOWNS n SUPERSPORT have added fire power 2 their already potent line up. I hate wat bobby is doing to the mighy kaizer chiefs. Pls my fellow buccaneers understand my fustration.

Qaddafi: 2011-07-21 23:47

Great game from our team, we can improve from there.LLL is our weakest link, maybe Mahamutsa and or Johannes must replace him.Jali needs to keep his head level going forward amd Meyiwa still must work on his ball distribution. Leal has done well on his first Derby and that will earn him a good space in our hearts, he must keep it up there. Happy birthday to Japhet Borges our fitness trainer, Mickey Modisane and the other new guy i forgot his name.
This win is also dedicated to our fallend soldier Mzion Mofokeng, May peace be upon you as you rest eternally, once and always!

Somebody said Leal never beat Zebras while he was at Swallows and Amazulu. And I said to him this is pirates, not Swallows or Amazulu. The Zebras must go check the Kroll's CV, before he joined Pirates, he never won at Treble, but at Pirates he broke records because we have a galaxy of stars. The coach's job is easy at Pirates.

breaking NEWS! A anonimuous source at Mayfair revealed that Leal was preffered to replace Kroll because Chiefs has neva beaten a team coached by him. And the source also revealed that Leal was promised the job after the Telkom knock-out final.

See that's what happens when Khune can't do it alone.Remember the second goal Baroka scored,Elias Pelembe's strike when Downs won 2-0,it was a far pole cross which is always left unguarded. The so called Mzansi 's finest conceded more goals than the combination of the so called fumbling( Moneeb,Senzo)last season, thanks to Chiefs defense.Bucs impressed me last night, but Mayambela must learn from Thando Mngomeni

Chiefs Funeral Cover scheme has gone bankrupt because of too many claims from last nite. February 26 FC has experienced a surge in claims since the humiliation from last nite. Someone d not bring his skaftin today. He says he does not feel like eating.

Champ "Superbrand": 2011-07-22 09:54

I like the statistics that we were given during and after the game and hope it will continue. Some Zebra guy said Zebras are quick and Pirates are slow a pass the ball only in their half. I told him that this paraffin speed wont work against Bucselona. Now the statistics say we run faster than the Zebras and cover more distance than them. We also had mor ball possession and more passes than them.

After the match VV was asked what went wrong and he said:

We are in the middle of the preseason, our players are tired. He he he he he he!!!!! Tired before we even start the season. Abo Black leopard bozo zenzela Kwi Zebras. He he he he he!!!! Zebras are tired!!!

Sleek: 2011-07-22 10:09

Sorry Philemon. maybe you should contest the name on the pitch with Kaizer Chiefs and i doubt if you will win because Zebras resonates well with Kaizer Chips, no disrepect ment.

"Amakhosi brought on three substitutes at the start of the second half and one of them, Mandla Masango, nearly scored straight away, but his volley from eight yards out was weak and straight at Khune."

Was Masango trying to score an own goal, Mr Editor?

Good Morning Champs

It is indeed a beautiful Friday morning. I would like to plead with fellow champs to refrain from insulting the zebras, cup queens, cable thieves, kaizebells. It is enough now. It is difficult for them dealing with the fact that we are triple champions. Now we wallop them while we are practising while they are fully engaging in a pre season game. It is too much for them. On their behalf, I plead with you fellow champs and zebra-stew munchers to stop insulting them.

Lets focus on our team. What is happening with Mayambela?

MaBuccaneer a coach cannot be judge after 1 game. I have my own reservations about the coach. I think he is influenced by the less experienced Tebogo Moloi. Playing possession football is the good start but there are rules. First you cannot defend too deep (Our Middle fielders and defenders are not pressing high and hence the next point). 2nd you must press immediate after losing the ball to avoid a long ball (Our Attackers are not doing this quick enough). 3rd you need a skillful defensive middle fielder (with confidence on the ball- This is Jali) and offensive middle fielder(s)(I dont think Manyisa and Manyambela have the qualities) and an intelligent second striker(I dont see Klate or Juju playing this role) to benefit on counter attack. 4th because you don’t have a target man your no1 striker must be able to make diagonal runs to your flanks and must have a killer instinct inside the box (It will be to much to ask for Drogba - Ndulula). 5th at least one of your left back or right back must be able to attach and have a terrific first touch and a killer final pass(Maybe Jele but he lacks the final pass). Your two central defenders must be ball players (Sangweni and Lekgwathi are only good at wining the ball and kicking it away) and your goalkepeer must be excellent in organizing, anticipation and confident in passing (Senzo lacks anticipation and confidence). In my opinion the only player which fits this pattern is Jali. If we want to benefit from total football we need to have a 8 year plan coupled with development. The current approach I don’t see it becoming sustainable. One Champions league lose, either the coach will go or we will have to go back to Krol's style of play and that will be the disaster. But time will tell I may be proven wrong.
