10-man Ajax work a miracle

Ajax Cape Town came from two goals down to secure a dramatic 3-2 win over Platinum Stars at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

Trailing 2-0 with two minutes to go, the Urban Warriors produced some magic as goals from Lebohang Manyana, Matthew Booth and Cecil Lolo.

The Cape side were out the blocks quickest, showing promise early on in their build-ups, but failing to threaten in front of goal.

There was a half chance for Brent Carelse after 12 minutes, but he was unable to convert Khama Billiat’s cross from the right wing.

Dikwena struggled for fluency in the first 20 minutes, yet somewhat against the run of play they took the lead in the 21st minute when Sibusiso Msomi took the ball of George Maluleka and picked out the top corner from an acute angle.

Nhlanhla Vilakazi should have levelled matters for the home side in the 35th minute, but took one turn too many and the chance went a-begging.

Two minutes later the Urban Warriors had their numbers reduced to 10 after Paul Rusike was red-carded for what appeared to be dissent.

Stars made it 2-0 on 67 minutes when Thuso Phala netted from close range after the Ajax defence was left wide open.

Dikwena looked to have the game in the bag, but the home side were given a chance in the 82nd minute when Ntsikelelo Nyauza took down Billiat in the box – red card and a penalty. Manyama comfortably converted from the spot to give the Cape side hope.

Booth then fired home from close range in the 91st minute after Billiat’s ball across the goal, before Lolo turned out to be the unlikely hero, popping up in the 95th minute to score a deflected goal after a goalmouth scramble.

Mr editor, this is damn confusing. You look at the PSL results column, Platinum stars won da game and yet on the other side it is said that Ajax got 3 goals to 2 beating Dikwena. Whats up dude???

I must say 4 once I'm disappointed with kick off s standards of report. The caption at the top states that ajax came 4rom 2-0 in two mintutes yet in the story it shows a longer time frame. Pls make corrrections 2 this story

Below par reporting by Coweditor and a very below par play by Platinum Stars players. Blowing away a two goal advantage on the 88th minute and ending up losing the game. Da Gama needs to give those players one of Sir Alex Ferguson's 'hair dryer sessions'. Totally, totally unexceptable.

What an amazing performance by Ajax. They played over an hour with ten men yet still controlled every aspect of it, except scoring. And then suddenly with 5 minutes to go, a penalty is awarded and Ajax come to life! Great comeback, even better than the one against Black Leopards. This was the most amazing performance by Ajax I have seen since the chowed the Pierats at Newlands! I have given up on the game. We were supposed to lose 2 - 0 when we got a consolation from the ref.

The ref and linesmen, by the way, awarded dikwena a blatant offside goal that could have cost us another red card!

Be that as it may, once again we show that we play the best soccer here in Cape Town, despite the mythical belief that there are only two clubs in this country. And once again, as with the Leopards 7 goal thriller there was no TV coverage so you guys will miss out on one of the best games of the season!
