Chiefs held by AmaZulu

Posted: Dec 20 2011

Kaizer Chiefs have been held to a 0-0 draw by AmaZulu in their Absa Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night.

A win would have sent the Amakhosi to pole position for at least 24 hours but instead they remain in third place, level on points with top two Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport (who both play on Wednesday evening) but trailing them both thanks to an inferior goal difference. Usuthu remain in ninth place.

Chiefs dominated the first half and created several opportunities to find the back of the net and take control of the game, but attackers George Lebese and Sthembiso Ngcobo were both guilty of missing glaring chances.

In the 10th minute right winger Mandla Masango provided a perfect cross that took both the AmaZulu backline and goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini out of the game, but Lebese was unable to turn the ball home for what should have been a straightforward finish.

Ngcobo played off the shoulder of the last defender and got in on goal three times – he found the back of the net on the first occasion but was correctly ruled offside; the other two times he shot wide of the target with only the goalkeeper to beat.

AmaZulu’s attempts to live with Chiefs were further stymied by two unfortunate injuries. Both Tsweu Mokoro and Marc van Heerden had to be replaced in the first half after picking up knocks, resulting in awkward reshuffles in both midfield and defence.

Despite the unsettling effect of losing those two key players, Usuthu’s backline was solid for the rest of the half and their efforts were encapsulated by a heroic block from Belux Bukasa that ensured Lebese was unable to get a shot away when he looked destined to score in the 38th minute.

Amakhosi continued to boss the game in the second half but their dominance was less pronounced, especially as AmaZulu striker Ayanda Dlamini came to life with two good attempts at goal, the first of which was saved by Arthur Bartman while the other required a good block from Jimmy Jambo.

Chiefs boosted their attack with the introductions of Bernard Parker and Lehlohonolo Majoro in the last quarter of the match, though the next good chance again went the way of the hosts and Dlamini, who got on the end of a left-flank cross from Sibusiso Hadebe but was unable to get his header on target at the far post.

Jimmy Tau had a similar chance at the other end in the 84th minute and though he managed to direct a diving header on target after meeting another great ball from Masango, Kapini was in the right place to make his first notable save of the match.

Masango almost scored himself two minutes later, but under pressure from an AmaZulu defender he shot wide of the near post after leading a lightning-quick counter attack down the right wing.

LordJerry : 2011-12-20 22:13

The weakest team in the PSL(Pirates Soccer League) is 3rd in the log and going down by a game...
I was expecting an easy win 4 Usuthu but i guess luck wasnt on their side....

Pirates: 2 seasons = 5 trophies

Zimbo fc 2 seasons = 1 trophy

This shows that when you improve the quality of the stadiums, proper teams with proper players will dominate... Football 101 was mastered at the University of Orlando.

I blamed mr Vivian mhen he said Zebra fans were crech kids, now im proven wrong.Winning the lig with 16 games to go?AmaZulu are cows indeed, how can they fail to beat these average players?A team with worst cows booed even by their crech kids fans?

I,m happy that our enemies recognise that Chiefs is a big brand and expect us to win even our away games.

@Jerry : 2011-12-20 22:18

Jerry so far chiefs has 79 cup wins, pirates has 34, google ''orlando pirates wikipedia'' and then google ''kaizer chiefs wikipedia'' the go 2 club honours of every team, thanx

Marah : 2011-12-20 22:18

I think VV don't want 2 win that game

Sea Robber : 2011-12-20 22:19

The zebras are blowing hot and cold and i am not scared because in the second round kuzokhala umuntu when we start collecting maximum points and by the way how many goals has Parker scored since returning from warming the grand stands overseas.Tomorrow we are closing 2012 in style as the mighty of them all.Once and always until family business plays with a starting eleven of mzansi born players only.

Tzozo : 2011-12-20 22:22

@ Lordjerry
Hey wena ngwana wa magosha ke wena the PSL was not formed last season mpya ke wena jou moer. How many cups have you won in ur 75 yrs of existence compared to Chiefs,s 40 years jou houtkop ?

LordJerry : 2011-12-20 22:23

This team has always been weak..... Players like Nomvete, Pule left Zimbo fc without winning the league title...

Zimbo fc went a full 12 years without a league title

1992-2004: Zimbo fc = 0 league title

1992-2004: Pirates = 3 league titles (1994, 2001 and 2003)

And they are well on their way to beat their own record its 7 years already and counting... Amabhakaniya Ajabulile... Football 101 was mastered at the University of Orlando.

@Jerry:2011-12-20 22:18

We Pirates supporters celebrate current success while you Zimbo fc faithfools have to rely on applications such as google, wykepedia ect... In order to celebrate..... Out of those 79 cups you won how many of those were won fairly... And how many of those a Champions League trophies.....

@Tzozo:2011-12-20 22:22

While you visit museums we will continue celebrating current success.... I wont say anything vulgar 2 u coz Bobby told you how useless u r, how we should piss in your stinking mouths, v.v said we should treat u like a used condoms, especially since when we c a gal wearing a Zimbo fc skippa we should assume she is a prostitude...

Although Ngcobo missed chances I thought he played better than Parker & Majoro could have played. His positioning was good & if he could be given more game time to build confidence.I also feel that 2nd half Chiefs was not dominating in midfield,if I was VV I could have put in Yeye & Kaizer jnr for Majoro & Parker.I just see this latter 2 having tough time.Majoro in particular tend to be selfish.I also felt disappointed with Shaun Bartlett on his take on Ngcobo & personally feel that Ngcobo is playing far better than Bartlett when at Chiefs. He didn't achieve anything there & with Ngcobo being given time, history will judge him.

bigk : 2011-12-20 22:43

khosi for life. We played good football with younsters but we were unfortunate not to score. A point is better than nothing. This pirates fans can talk as loud as they wish bottom line is we are seven points clear from them. They are going to loose again anyway tommorow. I fail to understand what their issue is i suppose they are just a buch of mogoes with poor thinking abilities. Is a shame that god created such creatures

bigk : 2011-12-20 23:34

28 points out of possible 45 is not bad at all considering that our big mouth friends are far from this. we need 35 points in the next round and we will win the league with 63 points. We are guaranteed 3 points from pirates and 9 points from the three teams that beat us in the first round so we actually need 24 points in the next round to be cowned champions. This is simple maths but i know our brothers from the other mothers will struggle to understand given their thinking abilities

Tebza : 2011-12-20 23:38

The zim zebra force made my nite m so happy maybe i'll snore tonite who knows,If i remember they got a chance last season to go on top of the league but they froze & we all know which team ended on top ya neh!To Bobby & his family business if u want yo team to succeed & be dominant again u need to change 2 things:the vicks vaporup @the zebra kit.

The Ghost: 2011-12-20 23:50

@ Lordjerry and Diehardbucs ... don't waste your energy with that mogoe from Botswana tzozzo ... they have nothing in their country, he is from a section of the country where they are lazy, never seen a skyscrapper in their lives or a freeway, their pride and joy is being vulgar because EVERYTHING was handed to them on a silver platter they NEVER fought for anything ... this you can tell by the vulgar and uncouth postings this animal posts and you will know ke setlaela sa ko Botswana tota and gives the rest of his people a bad name.

The Less said about Ngcobo the better again Miss Vivian Majoro and PaCow combination will never work ask your arogant friend Pitso. Congra on your 1 point as u always see it rather than 2 points dropped. Up the Bucs Till Bobby compile his CV

KING?: 2011-12-21 07:25

In a Race, you are bound to drop points - 2 points down for Chiefs due to their lack of quality players, a sober manager and a wise coach.

I am going to repeat myself, Its a Race and quality will be the order of the day unfortunately only Pirates and Sundowns have quality.

This is a race unfortunately for Pirates, it has to run on longer and shorter races.

Cza : 2011-12-21 07:27

@Dvd, my learned friend may you please enlighten us as to what should VV have done to win yeterdays game. In my limited opinion VV is not the reason for our inconsistancey but the quality of our players is. Which is the result of our buying policy iof not willing to pay top dollar for players.

Khosi by birth & right.

Charlie: 2011-12-21 07:33

The fluke win against Stars, thanks to the referee, instilled a false belief that they are capable of winning the league. Fact is, this is a useless team with below average players

KING?: 2011-12-21 07:40

Cza: interesting questions there Khosi, Chiefs fans are trying hard to convince themselves with their current average squad, the sooner they accept that nothing will come this season the better.

Guys u are hurting yourself, your team is very average.

Champ "Superbrand": 2011-12-21 07:50

Sthembi, Madolo, Park station, nyawana and Mansango are the best PSL cows. Maar the Chimpanzees, why booing your own prospect, Lucky Baloyi. Hhayi u VV was spot on when he said chiefs fans are childish, vele they are.

Champ "Superbrand": 2011-12-21 07:53

Shame, is the family Business running out of bribing funds, they pay too much money to Daniel Bennet and did not pay their prolific striker Sithole thats why he booked the drama Queen Matatazela who was desparately looking for a penalty diving in the 18th area as if its a pool. He looked shocked that a penalty was not given. If Sithole was paid and on form, he was going to give a penalty.

Amkhosi : 2011-12-21 07:53

Champ "Superbrand": 2011-12-21 07:58

Amazulu was useless on the day and the lost of their leftback and rightback early in the game further weaken them. how the family business failed to finish them off is a mystery but one thing for sure, it shows that the team consist of a herd of cows.

Mamoduwe : 2011-12-21 08:00

If you take two sets of (eleven) avarage kangaroos, led by two sets of avarage kangaroos coaches, who use avarage route-one result-orientated kangaroo tactics, then in the field you going to get two teams of kangaroos who play a messy, amateurish, dull, eyesore, third-rate, no-identity, unbearable, negative result-orientated "SKOP EN DONOR" kangaroo football.

Which will lead to a dull kangaroo 0-0 result.

Brown envelope is temporary but hard honest work is permanent, watch out for the wingless SWALLOWS they might just add salt to the wound by pushing you down to 4th place.

Yellow I Was, Yellow I Am & Yellow I Will Remain!

Letsman: 2011-12-21 08:08

If all you bloggers had soccer brains like King.., I quote "in a race, you are bound to drop points." This applies to all teams; Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns, SS. There is no consistent team in the PSL.Tel me which team has won 5 consecutive games?

Again, pliz stop blaming VV. Like Cza has said "what should VV have done to win yeterdays game?" The sooner we learn and accept that we lack quality the better. VV is doing the best with what he has at his disposal. Not even Mourhino can make it to the top8 with the current crop of players at chiefs.

On a positive note, our defence is impresive. The problem is our strike force and we need to adress that immediately.

@The Ghost
Pliz bra, respect my country Botswana

Champ Mriyo (Trebble kings of SA): 2011-12-21 08:18

So wat do u say now Makhosikazi? The league is a marathon n one game can change evrything guys.Stop being stubbon n listen 2 the words of wisdom frm us the Bucs fans.

Nzou: 2011-12-21 08:19

This team could be better if they go zimbos all the way. Truly speaking, who would call George Lebese, Parker, Masango, Ngcobo strikers, just pathetic. Only Jimmy Tau and Tshabalala are quality. Please look around even in the other teams if you can find players one can call strikers except at Sundowns and Benni. Ngcobo needs at least 20 clearcut chances to score, 15 to have a shot on target

Champ Mriyo (Trebble kings of SA): 2011-12-21 08:24

To be honest,it wud hv been better 4 Chimps 2 go top coz i know that team is average n not consistent bt Sundowns is realy dangerous on top.Its a must win game 4 us 2day.

Donald Duck: 2011-12-21 08:28

Yoh life has its up's and downs. Nqobo was a hero just a few days ago, now he's a vilan missing clear chances.. Anyway, overall a very good performance by the boys, Amazulu were nowhere to be seen. Well played, but we really need a clinical finisher to bury those chances. Happy holidays Khosi family!!!!!!!

Motlokoa  : 2011-12-21 08:35

When Champ KING told them tht this league is a marathon so during this race u are bound to drop points Retarded Hobos like Isoso, spantudinho, zakuni.cum insulted him as always n now its like ntho tse bonetsweng.

Its understandable for Bucs to drop points like this in this league race afta every competitive games for the season 2010/2012/2012 n they have won all Psl Triphies on offer for the FIRST time in the History of SA Football unlike this Chimpanzees who are droping points n have nothing to show for it,sies maan.

Tsipaa tse ntsho Tsipaa untill thier cabbage constructed stadium is completed after 15 years of construction.

KING?: 2011-12-21 08:36

Letsman: No team has been consistent in the PSL..spot on, The big 3 are not playing like big teams should, i am not sure whether the small teams have up their game.

Reality is, its too soon to claim who is going to win it, those who are reasoning on basis of stats are just pure ignorant.

But it will boil down to Quality and the size of the squad of which Pirates and Sundowns have an upper hand. Experience will also be an important element, this favours SSU(Hunt) and Pirates(Defending the league).

If you look into Chiefs current team, no one deserve to play for this big brand except Khune, Lebese and Shabba. Chiefs must buy players and re-open their development.

FRANCO: 2011-12-21 08:39

To all those who blame the coach: was he supposed to convert the 2 chances missed by Ncobo? was he supposed to come in and demonstrate to Lebese how to finish the keeper when he received a lay-off from Ncobo in the 18 area? are you no the once who were calling for the benching of Majoro and Parker and didn't he do so? VV YOU HAVE ALL MY SUPPORT. We played fairly well last night and should we have converted all our chances we could have won by a great margin.

by the way dn't be surprised Makhosi by the headlines, all teams celebrate a draw against us because they always expect to loose and that just shows how big this team is. We went away and came back with a point but our hater are saying we were held to a draw or worse we donated 2 points. How can you be held away?

Dooba OPC: 2011-12-21 08:49

Why are people celebrating our draw as if we have just been relegated to 10th position on Pirates Soccer League, as one idiot puts it?

We missed chances, but I am happy we did not play as bad as we did the last two games we won.

Facts: Ngcobo ke pudi. I for one missed Yeye, but the midfield that played did well. Parker should stop taking corner, his busy body can help as an outright striker- that what made Parker in the first place. VV is a good coach, I dont care what people say, it is not easy to work with people who underestimate their own abilities.

Credit must go Amazulu for giving us an open game of fluid flowing football without flaws and fouls. The Amazulu team really reminded me of Ajax lat season, they control the Boll nicely and their touches and passes were more accurate than ours, though we were more attacking than them- on the counter they are even more lethal, just that they played with an equally attack minded team as they were. Given any day, this Amazulu team can kill an avarage team like bucs to the core. Big up to the Amazulu coach for giving us the football we want to see~!

Bhakaniya , I would like to believe that you’re making sense but to be honest with , because I’ve never read even a single comment from you Bhakaniya praising Kaizer Chiefs…….even when we beat you 3-1 and the 3-0 in the final . You always come up with your questions and baseless information. Sometimes it’s difficult to engage with you in football because all you do is to attack and attack Kaizer Chiefs ,Jessica Motaung and our stupid manager Bobby….I hate him anyway .

Back to point and to be relevant , I knew that we don’t stand a chance of obtaining 3 points . Like I’ve said yesterday that I’m just waiting for the next season …to start afresh maybe by then there would be new faces in our camp. Even if we would have collected maximum points last night …still I don’t see my team winning the league. We’re not convincing at all , lack power upfront , our engine in the middle needs service, defence very shaky , between the poles we’re cool and we never had problems in that dept.

We went away and came back with a point - u cant say Chiefs is playing away whiles in Durban boss. Technically yes but really be honest now, Did n't you claim that Chiefs has no away games because it attract big crowds anywhere.

Fact of this matter is that Chiefs fans are hypocrites, Izolo they claimed that the league was beyond Pirates reach, today they are singing a different tune.

Ever since VV joined Chiefs in 2009, he never won the coach of the month award nor be on top of the league, why? Because Chiefs is always inconsistent under HIM!

So tell me, is this a good coach or bad coach?

In the battlefield, if the opponents are able to see every move youa re making, as a commander you then need to reshuffle your troops

Reality is Chiefs is been down for a while now and Kaizer Snr is not getting any younger as well, Bobby is the future like it or not, he has been prepared and Chiefs fans hate Bobby, Then what does the future holds for you.

This is a reality - Most Chiefs fans will end up at Pirates or Sundowns, They might as well join now and adapt to the culture.

I must say I saw the glimpse of Kaizer Chiefs yesterday, that's what I have said, there are games you won't win convincingly while playing most boring football, yesterday we played exceptionall well, a very improved team as compared to Sundowns and FS Stars respectively.

Also Shabba should be commended for leading by example yesterday and this is what VV has been stressing out that the BB and senior players should take responsibility, yesterday Shabba took such responsibility.

As I have said, first phase of the season is always difficult and therefore we should collect as many points as possible since the second phase of the season is difficult. Also I think we must keep a close distance with the log-leaders (pretenders) since being on escalating on the summit amounts to pressure by itself, at the right time, we will overtake the pretenders. SSU can attest that being on top is a challenge on its own

Although I still have hope/faith that we will win this league, some questions must be asked about the culture of KCFC: I mean players come at Chiefs blazing hot, but deteriorate over a short space of time i.e.
- Majoro's performance is something very painful to the eye- he reminds me of Khanyeza while still with us. The latter came from Golden Arrows blazing hot and scoring, but he only scored less 3 goals for us in a season and missed quite a lot.
-The less said about Ngcobo the better, he reminds me of Pitso in his playing days, a complete COW with a letter "C"- but we cannot forget that this guy used to score for FS and even earned his Bafana call up- what happned?
- Parker- oh well.
- Yende- would Jali have been like Yende had he chose Chiefs over the rats?- I guess we wont know!

What is exactly wrong with KC culture for underperformance?

Hypotheses:

-European coaches are less likely to engage with players on a social level, thus business to them means kicking the boll irrespective of whether the player has personal problem or not i.e. Middendorf, Ertugral, Papic, VV
-The last time we found sustenance was when the local coach (Dimitru is as local as it can get) was with us, he understood the mentality and the need for freedom for flair to produce results. Flair is not only dull, it can be used to tease your oppenent while creating a niche for goal opportunity i.e. Scara (RIP) used this technique wisely but was misunderstood by Middendorp. But Dimitru allowed with that freedom and we won back to backs.

What is wrong with our management with these foreign coaches- as good a coach VV is, he will never understand SA style of football which is governed by flair and freedom of movement!

As much as I respect the fact that you literally 'write what you like', I beg to differ:

I believe that our coach has done enough, considering that his tactics are subject to media scrutiny, soccer laduma introduced 'Amisco' or whatever they call it, why hasn't it used the same instrument for other teams? The purpose was to expose VV's tactics but yet VV has proven himself to be a good tactician. I thought the same instrument will be used to gauge other teams, the graphical a*nalysis of Dladla's movement and impact-factor thereof.

Also BBK, self-proclaimed soccer pundit, impugned VV's tactical system, merely to expose him but still VV got the team around.

I challenge you, does VV has the necessay ammunition or armoury at his disposal to challenge for the league? If VV has to be fired, then let management buy him quality players such as, Myeni, Isaac (from Santos), even Pelembe who is clearly not happy at Downs anymore.

Since we signed Mbesumba for R70 000 and Musona for few Zim dollars Bobby thinks he can turn little SAM into BIG SAMSONs. I will never forget the moment we signed Ncanana,Songwiqi and when we signed Nhleko......I knew ukuthi we gonna be facing an uphill task in PSL. We have enough money to get best players to fill the void left by Musona and transfer all these players that are not playing well in our team....e.g:Isaac Erwin,Sifiso Myeni and Patric Phungwayo

The problem at Chiefs is:

1. Bobby does not know football business

2. The Coach does not know his priorities (whether to play good football or win trophies)

3. There is lack of playing capacity. e.g Khune is injured, Bartman is in, but who is Bartman's reserve (Metsimetsi, is he the same quality, hell no)

4. Bobby is big headed and does not want to listen to the suppporters...he run Chiefs like his BEE company...Lefika Holdings

5. The Coach does not recognise players like Dladla, Nale etc,etc...he has his favourites

6. Motaung Snr, is no longer leading from the front..he relies too much on his children...Not everything can be delegated and you cannot delegate accountability...

All in all, if a ship sink, a captain need to take the blame and be the last one to leave the ship.

Bra K is accountable for Chiefs misfortune, since 2009!

Gucci Man: Bobby closed doors for the boy, whiles at Chiefs, Nkompela wanted Nkambule at Platinum but Bobby put a big price tag on a player he did n't need, what do you call that, Bobby is closing all doors for this boy Nkambule, bad reference.

Go watch Tshivuta stars and see what Nkambule does in the NFD. The boy was a regular at national under 20/23, probably the best player at that time.

The boy enjoyed first team football in France ahead of Killer Mphela.

Gucci Man: To say DVD was n't in VV plans is hogwash, Is Sibeko in VV's plans, Ncanana,Yende and Kaizer Jnr.

The point you need to accentuate is that Nkambule was from Chiefs development structures, He was recalled by Chiefs to re-join them from abroad actually he was convinced, but later dumped.

Fact is Bobby mix business with pleasure Boss and some of us have the privileged to be close to these players. They will tell you that VV operates with instructions.

If you are not worried, then we dont wanna hear your complaints about how Lilian should have not benched Jali- if you are not worried, and since you have the Galaxy, and you are satisfied this year, then initiate a campaign for your team to play a second string- fact is that the sky is always the limit in what we call success, you can never have enough in achievement, that is why you will always be worried. Coming from Chiefs Development doesn’t mean you’ll end up playing for Chief for the rest of your life …..e.g Patrick Phungwa played for Orlando Pirates development and he’s playing for Bidvest Wits…( do some research Bhakaniya) , Bojan is now in Italy and he’s from Barca development.
To say Chiefs dumped Nkambule …that’s an ignorant statement and you sound like you just started supporting football 3 years ago Bhakaniya
It’s called releasing players/ giving them a chance to pursuit their careers elsewhere……don’t be emotional and start coming up with ignorant, baseless information

Did Pirates dump Gift Leremi(RIP) , Lebohang Mokoena,Mdledle, Katlego Mashigo, Otorogu,?
Every coach will always have his favourite players in a team….that’s the reality , unfortunately we have to face that that’s why Krol was using Mbuyane & Teko even when they were not performing and because of pressure from fans and Dr Irvan Sokhela decided to release Teko, he was sold to Mortuary FC .

Get your facts straight KING……

Mczana: 2011-12-21 12:26

A question to all Pirates fans. Having realised that Chiefs dont have quality players & the realisation that quality is at Pirates & Chiefs. How do you feel about your current league form & position?
I ask this question because I, as a Chiefs fan am not happy with the fact that we dont have quality players but am satisfied and happy that we have a coach who has managed against all odds to get us to a position where we are equal on points with the log leaders, a coach who has managed to have the best defensive record in the log. All this being achieved with very limited resources.
Before you bite my head off, may I get answers from people who are gonna talk football facts & not street talk about refrees being bribed and so forth, coz we all know that the standard of refreeing in our leagues leaves a lot to be desired. All teams have benefited & have been negatively affected from dubious refreeing decisions. Lets talk football fellow bloggers.

Khosi by birth & right.

The Ghost: 2011-12-21 18:48

@ Mczana as a Bucs supporter I personally am not to pleased with our current league position and the inconsistancy factor, but I am not too worried about that at the moment because that is something that can be remedied since, as everyone says, the league is a marathon, we can still defend our trophy so long as we have it in striking range, but we have got to be realistic too. If we have aspirations of conquering Africa something has got to give, which is why I can say maybe we need to preserver out strength for the real challenge ahead and maybe let the league go. However, Bucs and here let us be fair guys, Bucs have overcome their main weakness, and that is winning cups, it seems now all those lean years are behind us, and this has been a reward to all those long suffering Buccaneers who have had to endure very close moments.
