Lucky Mzizi scored the all important goal that helped NFD side Thanda Royal Zulu edge out Vodacom side Peace Lovers 2-1 in extra-time in a Nedbank Cup match on Wednesday night.
The scores were locked at 1-1 after regulation time as both teams spurned numerous opportunities to kill off the contest.
Thanda took the lead a minute before the half-time whistle when winger Bongani Mbele picked out Reason Chiloane with a cross from the right flank.
The striker let rip with a powerful drive which deflected of Lovers defender Thobane Rekhotso before making its way into the net.
Lovers hit back, a minute after the interval through striker Malesela Moshi who fired home a firm header from Velile Mdaka’s cross.
Mzizi pounced when Lovers defender Kgaoka Mootane tried to steer a pass to his keeper Baloyi Motsoshi. But the nimble footed Mzizi intercepted the attempt and prodded the ball past the stranded Motsoshi.
