Platinum Stars' woes continue as they lost 3-2 in the Nedbank Cup to lesser known Als Puk Tawana at Olen Park.
Tawana made their intentions clear early on when they continuously attacked the Platinum Stars goal area. Mishack Ramahuma missed two great chances to the dismay of coach Ted Dumitru.
However it took only twelve minutes for the first goal when Lebepe Phetolo beat the offside trap and chipped over an advancing Tapuwa Kapini to score.
Tawanas goalie Bongani Marosha was called on to stop a header from Mzikayise Mashaba after a cross from Joseph Malongoane in the 24th minute. Jabulani Shongwe doubled Tawanas lead after a great run on the flank and beat Kapini with a low shot in the 34th minute.
Mishack Ramahuma should have increased the lead two minutes later when he broke through but sent his shot wide. Marosha produces another great save in the 41st minute to deny Kagiso Senamela from close range.
The score was 2-0 to Tawana at interval.
Stars came back revived in the second half as Malongoane hit the post in the 47th minute. Tapini produces a great save to deny Sanele Mkhize.
Stars pulled a goal back through Senamela in the 58th minute, when he tapped in a cross from Mashaba.
Malongoane got his marching orders for a second bookable offence in the 60th minute. It did not take long before Tawana made use of their numerical advantage when Shongwe completed his brace after getting the better of the complacent Stars defence in the 64th minute.
Tawana were awarded a penalty in the 68th minute when Reuben Thebakeng was adjudged to have brought down Mishack Ramahuma in the box. However, Tapuwa Kapini redeemed himself when he saved Buhlebuyeza Mkhwanazi's penalty kick.
In the 73rd minute, Senamela pulled a goal back when he his spectacular shot struck the woodwork before going into the back of the net.
Senamela came close to grabbing a hat-trick but Doctor Mampuru cleared off the line in the 81st minute.
Tawana was reduced to ten men when Thabo Maselwa got his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
However at the end Tawana held on to their 3-2 lead.
