Ajax Cape Town cruised through to the Nedbank Cup round of 16 with a 5-0 win over Wings United at the Boland Rugby Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Sameehg Doutie and Stanton Lewis got two a piece, and Dispy Selowane scored from the spot.

Ajax had all of the play in the first half, but it took them 40 minutes to score, Doutie netting after a strong run down the right.

Prior to that Wings had kept out wave after wave of Ajax attacks, although they were helped by the woodwork as both Nathan Paulse and Stanton Lewis struck the bar.

The Second Division side from Uppington were also assisted by some rank amateur finishing from Ajax, with Paulse and Lewis missing some sitters.

The Cape side’s second goal came in the 42nd minute when Selowane slotted home from the spot after he had been fouled in the box by Lincoln George.

Lewis further increased the Urban Warriors lead in the 52nd minute when he cleverly beat Wings keeper Vuyisani Mangaliso, before slotting into an empty goal.

The Northern Cape outfit, backed by a sizable travelling supporter base, tried to play their way back into the game, but could not get the ball into any dangerous positions.

The home side were not as rampant as they had been in the first half, but it was 4-0 to Ajax with 20 minutes to go when Lewis’ strength saw him forcing his way through the Wings defence.

Doutie netted his brace in the final minute of regulation time to compete the rout for Ajax, who are guaranteed to face much tougher opposition in the next round.
