Ezenkosi hold Santos to draw

Posted: Apr 11 2008

Santos remained third in the Absa Premiership following their 1-1 draw with Jomo Cosmos at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night.

Bonginkosi Macala opened the scoring for Cosmos, with Erwin Isaacs netting for the People’s Team.

The visitors started the match the better of the two sides with Reneilwe Letsholonyane prominent in all of the Ezenkosi’s attacks.

Cosmos created the first chance of the game in the eighth minute when Letsholonyane played Macala through on goal, but the winger shot straight at Santos keeper Wayne Roberts.

Santos’ first chance arrive in the 10th minute when Cosmos keeper Avril Phali punched Thando Mngomeni’s cross into the path of Zvenyika Makonese, but the defender’s header flew just over the bar.

Siza Dlamini should have opened the score for Cosmos in the 12th minute when he rounded Roberts, but he touched the ball too far ahead and from a tight angle sent the ball high and wide of goal.

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when Letsholonyane put Macala through on goal, and the 22-year-old made no mistake with a powerful shot past Roberts.

Santos were awarded two minutes later after Thapelo Tshilo fouled Isaacs inside the area, but Phali parried Isaacs’ spot-kick and the Santos striker then managed to send his follow-up shot over the bar.

However, Isaacs made no mistake in the 32nd minute when he slotted home a free-kick into the far corner following a foul on Eleazar Rodgers on the edge of the area.

Innocent Ntsume should have restored the visitors’ two minutes later after running onto a dummy by Letsholonyane, and with just Roberts to beat he sent his effort straight at the Santos keeper.

The score remained 1-1 at half-time.

Santos made a bright start with Thomrick October threatening with a fierce long range shot which Phali did well to tip over the bar.

Ryan Chapman came on for Thando Mngomeni in the 59th minute and the youngster almost made an immediate impact, sending a powerful shot from just outside the area, but the striker’s effort flew straight at Phali.

Macala wasted a glorious chance in the 61st minute when he was played through on goal by Letsholonyane, but he sent his effort well wide of goal.

Both sides made several changes towards the end and that disrupted the flow of the game, with Santos looking the likelier side to score, but to avail and the match ended in a draw.

Viva Santos Viva! no body said you will go the whole season without dropping points. What eva happens onwards, Bright has proved many wrong. I expected them to drop points in the previous game but they won, however they droped points now.but stil th remain unbeaten in 10 games and they are stil vying for the cup.whoeva will come out and try to spell **** here about santos is a real dumb:I would consida Proff better than them.
COSMOS have now upped their game and are fighting for survival we expect them to give it their all.they have recently held Mabhakanyiya to a draw and it was normal, now that its santos people think its weird.Halala! Bright now people begin to know that a DRAW for you is awful i wonder what they will say if u lose.If only u can keep doing what people expect you to do.WIN WIN WIN!

james: 2008-04-12 23:03

keep harmaring them the people,s team. a draw is not bad considering that you have gone 10 games without a loose. and the league is not about playing good football its about winning games jk
