Pitso's record as Bafana coach

Pitso Mosimane's record as coach of South Africa

Posted: 5 June 2012 Time: 8:33 am

Pitso Mosimane got off to a good start with Bafana Bafana after taking over in July 2010, but he faltered in the end ...

What do you think about Mosimane's time with Bafana? Have your say on our Facebook page HERE!

Mosimane’s 23-month reign as Bafana coach will be best remembered for his failure to take the country to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations – telling the team to sit back and settle for a draw against Sierra Leone in Nelspruit in October last year, which turned out to be a fatal mistake as the rules were either not checked or misinterpreted.

His shot at redemption was cut short after Bafana drew their first match of the World Cup 2014 qualifiers with Ethiopia at home on Sunday.

In all, Mosimane was in charge of 16 official matches – winning six, drawing seven and losing three.

Mosimane’s record as Bafana coach

Actual a very good record. It seems in SA we fire all coaches with a good record. We did the same with Mashaba. We keep Santana with 2 wins and 11 loses

Media wrote Pitso's orbituary long ago??? Mourinho or sir alex could fail if they would be in Pitso's shoes! Pitso is a strong coach believe me. He endured the worst pressure possible in the history of South african football. Pitso inherited a cursed team and he was expected to perform miracles. SUFFER is leading us astray with their incompetence. MEDIA PRESSURISED SUFFER TO FIRE THE WRONG MAN.

With Gordon Igesund at helm we must brace ourselves for the return of Sibaya, Tsutsulupa, Moriri, Belly to name just few. Gordon is not the kind of coach to build for the future, but a coach who relies on players who are about to reach their expiry date to yield quick results. mxm.... I sympathise with Pitso. His passion is regarded as arrogance by his critics. #Baffled

The worst thing that SUFFER could do is to appoint Gordon as our coach. Yes, he has won leagues with various teams but people forget that he never left a concrete foundation in all the teams he has coached or won the leagues with. They all suffered after his depature because he uses sell-by date players who only have a season to give.

Manning Rangers got relegated after he left, Sundowns is still suffering his aftermarth, Pirates had to rebuid after he left, Santos regressed after a 1 season Gordon fling.

We must also not forget that he coached African Wanderers in 1995 their last top flight season. He created havoc at Maritzburg United. He destroyed the hard work by Khompela at FFS before Steve coming back to fix the team, Ajax had one of their worst runs under Gordon.

Gordon is nomadic, he never pledges allegiance to one team. This is not only because of teams owners but because he knows his shortcomings, i.e. failure to build a team's foundation, inability develop talent, inability to plan for seasons & overreliance on old players will haunt him should he stay longer at one club. The question is "will he be able to stay in SA's hot seat longer?" I don't think so.

We must say goodby to development if he gets appointed. All our young players must forget about playing for BB in their youth years. Who has Gordon developed in his illustrious coaching history? Development of players for the national team is a prerequisite for any coach. The leaders in development, Brazil, had Ronaldo as a 17year old in USA WC 1994, they had Ronaldihno in 1998, resently they had Neimaar in their national team set up. The intention was not to play them as they never played in those WC's but to develop them for the future which proved right. Will Gordon have Majoros to do that? I guess not.

@Justinus.......If Igasend can select the players who are to retire and win, then he is the right man for the job.BAFANA IS NOT AGE GROUP TEAM.We only need matured players who can deliver. Its not the duty fo BB to groom players,BB just take well ripen players no matter the age.Italy won the world cup with veterans who most of them have since retired,so as Egypt has been dominating with the aged@ ACN.
