Safa want consistent top 3 Africa rating

The South African Football Association (Safa) wishes to clarify the position of the reported ultimatum to Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane.
The reported ultimatum – CLICK HERE
• Safa has set a long term goal to be a top 3 African football Nation on a consistent basis
• The journey to achieve this goal will require the implementation of the technical plan, the development of which was discussed at the media Conference on Thursday, 2 February
• One of the key dimensions of the technical plan will be an emphasis on performance across all disciplines within the game
• Over and above the long term goal, South African football also has two short-term objectives: the first is to perform with excellence as the host team at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa next year; the second is to ensure that we progress through the qualifying process to participate in Brazil 2014
• The definition of ‘perform with excellence' has cast a shadow of uncertainty regarding the future of the Senior Men's National Team Head Coach, Pitso Mosimane. This was never the intention and Safa wishes to place on record that it fully supports, and has full confidence in the coach's and the players' ability to deliver
• We do believe that it is minimum expectation that Bafana Bafana progress beyond the Group stages of the 2013 Afcon and ideally we would wish to participate, in front of the Nation, in the Final at Soccer City
• Football is all about winning – Safa is in the business of winning. We fully understand the impact of the National Football Team's performance on the spirit of the Nation. We do not take this responsibility lightly and neither does the Senior Men's National Team Head Coach
• The Nation wants the team to win and progress far into the AFCON tournament. As custodians of the National team we set a minimum expectation, as stated by Safa vice-president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana. This would be a good performance but not a great one. Accordingly, to inspire greatness we also set a high level goal. We want to win!
• It would, however, be wrong to pre-judge what ‘perform with excellence' means at this stage .We know what we need to achieve and we will need to carefully evaluate our performance and the implications after the tournament, not before!
• At this stage we would ask that the Nation gets behind the team, gets behind the coach and begin to focus on reigniting the spirit of 1996 and the emotional momentum of 2010.
