Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker has described the new Nike Mercurial Vapor IX boot as "perfect" for a footballer.
The Mercurial Vapor IX, which was launched yesterday and can be seen in the image above, is engineered with a completely new upper to deliver a level of support and touch offering players a deadly combination of speed and skill when it matters most.
Nike's new Speed Control texture on the upper gives players the confidence to perform at speed with enhanced friction that combines with a snug and responsive fit - a hallmark of Mercurial boots.
During a behind scenes photo shoot of Nike's African football campaign, Africa's Deadliest, Parker tells KickOff.com the boot gives him a good connection to the ball.
"I love this boot, especially for shooting. You will always get a good connection with this boot and as a striker; I must always get a good connection," he says.
Parker's sentiments are shared by one of South Africa's top strikers Benni McCarthy. "It is elegant… It is class," Bafana's all-time leading goal scorer says.
The Mercurial Vapor IX, originally launched 10-years ago, features a unique, lightweight plate, incorporating two different pieces of glass fiber that increase flexibility and responsiveness, providing energy return in the heat of the game.
A selection of Nike's sponsored players will for the first time on Saturday, January 19 be seen wearing the boot during Afcon including South Africa's Parker and Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba.
