Namibia’s Brave Warriors will have to beat Malawi when the two nations meet in the final Group B match of the new look Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup tomorrow.
The Warriors were held to an uninspiring 1-all draw by Lesotho at the Lilian Ngoyi, in Secunda, Mpumalanga, yesterday.
Enterprising defender Jamunovandu Ngatjizeko put Namibia ahead with a powerful header when he connected with Paulus Shipanga’s well-floated corner kick in the 25th minute.
Coach Tom Saintfiet pulled out the ineffective Jeremiah Baisako for Freedom Puriza at the start of the second half, but the move yielded very little positives as the boys from the Mountain Kingdom came out like men possessed in the final 45 minutes.
Namibia huffed and puffed for the better part of the second half with Lesotho piling up the pressure but the Namibian defence manned by evergreen George Hummel and Steven Goagab stood firm.
Saintfiet unleashed Victor Helu for the clearly out of sorts Edward Damaseb in the 65th minute, but it was Lesotho who had their opponents back-peddling with numerous attacks and the boys from the Mountain Kingdom were eventually rewarded with a goal in the latter stages of the match.
Namibia suffered a major blow when Shipanga limped off with an injury with 10 minutes left on the clock with Victor Helu coming on for the veteran winger.
